"I don't know, you think he's had sex in this?" I burst out laughing and he looked absolutely disgusted. "Why isn't anyone eating?"

"Kitchen is closed, we're serving drinks only today. Ingredients to each drink is on the counter, you can't go wrong just make sure you ask for ID."

The further I got into my shift the more lively the place got. I melted into the vibe, soaking in the laughter and smiles of the customers that I had known most of my life.

"One midnight cowboy, two summer means bourbon and a cactus Jack. That one's spicy so beware." I shot Mr Adam's son a wink and he laughed.

"Hey River, could you clear the glasses on this table and I'll take the new orders?" My voice was loud, fighting for the winning volume over the Devil went down to Georgia.

"What can I get for you?" I addressed the table.

"Two naked Westerns, a pickled Texas Roadhouse and a virgin buffalo bill."

"Not seen you around here sunny Jim." He uttered to River who smiled politely back at him.

"Justin hired him a while back, he's alright, a bit slow." I teased making River give me a dirty look.

The customer had a plastic spear that must've been part of his costume. He whirled it around carelessly, pointing it at River. "You've surely gone all out for your costume tonight aintcha?"

River jumped backwards, dropping all of the glasses to the floor and smashing them.

A few drunks cheered, Justin yelled from the kitchen and River struggled to keep composure. Breathing heavily with his eyes closed.

"River, you good?" He didn't answer me. I dropped to the floor, loading my tray with his mess. I looked up at him, he was still struggling through. "You want to take five?"

"Yeah." He breathed out quietly and then disappeared into the staff room.

He smashed six glasses but thankfully they were clean breaks. I stood up, feeling hot and flustered.

"I'll bring your drinks over as soon as they're ready." I informed the table of thirsty people and they just nodded at me.

"Millie!!!!" Tyler yelled.

"Hey, you all look amazing. That table is free over there I'll be right over." I nodded towards the booth with my head.

"Where is River?" Monique snapped with her usual irritated tone. She looked down at me like I was someone else's chewing gum stuck on the bottom of her shoe.

I ignored her, deposited the tray on the counter and pressed my notepad down in-front of Graham. "Can you make these up for me, take your time."

"Millie I have my own table!" I heard him call after me but I ignored him too and went in the back.

River had gone out of the fire exit and I found him leaning against the outside wall with his eyes closed.

"Are you okay?" I approached him with caution.

He opened his eyes and stood up straight.

"No." He answered truthfully.

He raked his hands through his mop of hair and sighed. "People need to learn to keep their fucking hands to themselves."
