"They are cute aren't they."

"They are." I agreed with him. Marcus moves up on the bed so his sitting next to me. The little wince that comes from him doesn't go unnoticed. His left hand was wrapped in a white bandage. "Are you going to tell me what happened?"

"What are you talking about?" He's expression playful, but he couldn't hold eye contact. Which gave him off because Marcus's eye contact game was on one-thousand.

"You've got a little... Here. Let me."
His thumb brushes my bottom lip. His eyes move from lips to my eyes. I cuss myself for getting lost in his. He's hesitant but eventually presses his lips softly against mine.

"Who did this?"

Once again he kisses me. This time a little harder and with tongue. I caught on to what he was doing. He was trying to distract me from asking questions. It would have worked if I wasn't tasting the metalic taste of his blood when we kissed.

I pull away. "Marcus."

"Ruby." He mocked. Kissing down my neck. I cross my arms over my chest and he finally stops. "Look, it's not important."

A long silence lingers between us.

"Why are you here?"

"What do you mean? You're hurt and I'm here to make sure you're okay."

"Why?"

"Because your mom asked me to." His eyes looking anywhere but me he adds. "Because... I care about you."

"No you don't. Because if you really cared about me, you wouldn't be lying to me. You would tell me what the fuck happened to you." I say jabbing my finger to his chest.

Marcus chuckles running a hand over his face. "Ruby."

"I'm glad you're finding this funny."

"It's nothing." He heavies a sigh. "Nothing happened, Ruby."

I heavy out a sigh. I couldn't help but feel like shit. My heart sunk.

Maybe he's just tired, as he said. We'll try again when he's rested and maybe he'll open up a little more.

I tried to console myself. I could hear his even shallow breathing, he had fallen asleep. Head resting on my chest. I run my fingers through his hair massaging his scalp.

This means he trusts me, right?

My mind gushed. Made man don't just go sleeping in any women bed in fear of waking up with their hair cut off and police at their bedside, like Delilah did Samson.

My mind went over every possible scenario of how the conversation might go tomorrow morning.

I don't want to expose myself and be vulnerable with him if he won't give me back the same energy. I also don't want to get my heart broken.

Marcus lets out a soft moan, cuddling closer. Awakening butterflies in my tummy. I catch myself smiling.

Normally, I would have chessed him out the house, lied, or maybe even ghosted him but I was interested in this man. He made me feel a way I hadn't felt in a long time.
