A few days later.
Kayla POV.
After a tiresome day at college, I was finally able to go home and relax in my bed until my ears caught some words from the other side of the wall. It was from Karla's room.
"Nick, the party is tomorrow evening?" Karla asked.
Silence.
"Okay, count me in, I'm totally coming, that sounds pretty fun."
Ugh, Nicholas. That guy. I hated him with a passion. He was just your average douchebag jock who couldn't keep his balls to himself. Well, basketball requires sharing a ball with your teammates but not that kind.
Seriously, I couldn't take him. He was just loud and obnoxious, worse than Karla, and him and Karla combined were the worst mix. You might as well call them a speakerphone. Him and Karla go way back, from middle school, and into high school, Karla, being a cheerleader and him being a jock, it was inevitable that they would meet.
But ever since then I've been suffering from the disease called jealousy.
Why?
Because she was getting all the attention, and I was just the shadow. I couldn't take it anymore, I needed to steal the spotlight to cure myself from the disease called jealousy, so of course I'd try to be my sister whenever I had the chance. I'd steal him like I did on valentine's day. But this only confused him.
I didn't care. That night, I felt like the disease was killing me, and I knew that Karla wouldn't invite me to the party either.
Two knocks rumbled my door, so I looked up.
"Hello?" I yelled.
"Hey, sis, I just wanted to ask if you want to come to Nick's party tomorrow?"
I paused, staring into space. She had asked me? Why?
"Why are you asking me this?"
"Maybe you could try and make some friends, you know? You can't stay cooped up in your room for your whole life, you've gotta have a social life too," Karla said. "You can bring Zairo too, I'm sure Nick wouldn't mind."
"But Nick and Zairo don't get along with each other," I replied.
"So? You should still bring him, maybe they will reconcile."
I thought about it and found it strange that she asked me to come. She never asked me to come to a party before because she knew it wasn't my thing, so why all of a sudden would she ask?
Was it an excuse to get Zairo?
I had no idea, but if that was true, it was a very smart plan. Nicholas would only tolerate Zairo if I was around because I was Karla's sister, who he didn't dare to disrespect. But Karla? If she tried to invite Zairo, Nicholas would get jealous and refuse no matter what.
Maybe it was her way of seeing Zairo again. But I wanted the attention. If she could just sneak away with Zairo, I could take over.
So I said, "Yes, I want to come."
I could already feel the proudness in Karla.
"Well done, girl, I'm so proud of you, I love you sis."
"Me too."
After she left, I threw my head back into the pillow, looking up at the ceiling, smiling.
Perfect. I could get my time to shine without resorting to sneaky tactics to impersonate Karla. I just hoped that I wouldn't be boring once I got there. Because that would be my only chance to shine.
