Have I ever told you
How good it feels to hold you
It isn't easy to explain
And though I'm really trying
I think I may start crying
My heart can't wait another day

"I can't do this." James paced the floor of the living room. Sirius sat on the couch smirking as he watched his best friend stress himself out. "Yeah, you can, mate." James smiled, "You're right. Of course, I can." He sat down next to the curly-haired boy before his eyes widened in panic again. "But what if she says no? There's always that possibility." He stood up again, pacing once more. "What if she thinks we're too young? But what if we don't make it to an appropriate age? What if-"
"James if you don't sit down I'm going to make sure you don't get the chance to ask her."
James sighed and sat down again. Now all he had to do was wait.

Everyone was finally here. Catching up from the week and eating. Their close friends were back from school, this was the moment. The moment when James finally asks Y/N to be his forever. The only problem was trying to get her attention.
Y/N sat on the couch with Lily, Marlene, and Dorcas. James couldn't pay attention to what they were talking about as he walked up to them. "Um... Y/n/n would you mind helping me with the dishes?" She chuckled, confused as to why he seemed nervous. "Of course, babe."
They walked to the kitchen and she went straight toward the pile of dishes besides the sink. James watched her turn the tap on and started running the dishes under the hot water. He turned around and saw everyone hiding behind the door giving him nods of encouragement and thumbs-ups.
He steeled his nerves and walked toward her. "Y/N?" She hummed in question. "I- uh... I..." He sighed in slight frustration but also amusement as she didn't turn around and kept washing the dishes. "Screw it. I don't know what to say, but will you turn around, please? I'm trying to ask you an important question."
Y/N laughed and turned around, dropping the sponge in her hand when she saw him down on one knee in front of her holding a small black velvet box. "I had this speech prepared and even practiced it with Pads... But I forgot it. So, will you marry me?"
She stood there with tears in her eyes and walked over to him slowly before kneeling down in front of him, nodding. "Yes." Her voice was no louder than a whisper. James' smile was so big, Y/N laughed as he slipped the ring onto her finger. The silence was broken instantly as everyone came rushing in cheering their congratulations and hugging the newly engaged couple.
James nodded absently mindedly to Sirius and Remus as they talked to him, but he couldn't take his eyes off Y/N as the girls surrounded her, gushing about the ring and wedding details. He couldn't have asked for anything else. His friends and fiance all together to share this special moment.
