Brenda and Thomas were outside their principal, Mrs. Paige's office. Brenda had to talk about switching classes. So they were waiting in the weird little secretary room outside the office.
Mr. Janson was the name of the secretary. He was almost a second command to Mrs. Paige. Almost like a vice-principal, but not quite.
Neither of them liked Mr. Janson much. Thomas had met him a few times last year when Brenda got in trouble. And that was very often. They had started calling him The ratman behind his back.
The nickname suited him. He was a small balding man with rattish features and an abnormally long nose.
When Mrs. Paige was finally ready, Brenda walked into her office, while Thomas waited outside. Brenda sat on one of those uncomfortable seats in Mrs. Paige's office.
She was nice enough, but looked stern and professional at all times, with her hair always pulled back into a bun and hawk eyes.
"What is it that you would like to talk about Brenda?" Mrs. Paige (Ava was her first name, but no student dared to call her that. None except Brenda)
"Well Ava," Mrs. Paige flinched at the mention of her name. "I was wondering if I could switch classes."
Mrs. Paige just nodded. Barely moving her head.
"What class?" She asked.
"I was wondering if I could switch from art to that advanced science class my brother is in." Brenda told her.
"Well, you will need an art grade." Mrs. Paige told her. "You would need to do some out of class art class that we could grade you on."
Brenda groaned lightly. Art was not her least favourite class, but she certainly didn't enjoy it.
"I do know of a drawing class at the community centre." Mrs. Paige told her.
"That would work." Brenda told her. Trying to hide her annoyance. She would have to take an extra hour of class learning to draw, a useless skill, so her brother could get some action. Thomas so owed her.
"Great. You will be in the same class as Thomas." Mrs. Paige said, although not showing the slightest bit of happiness.
Brenda walked out of the room with not a single word more.
When she got into the odd secretary office, Thomas bombarded her with questions.
"So? How did it go?" He'd asked the very minute she walked out Mrs. Paige's door.
"I guess well. I'm in the class now, but I have to take some extra art class at the community centre now, so thanks for that."
Thomas smiled slightly.
"I can't believe you're putting this much effort into trying to get a guy. I didn't ever do something like this with Aris." She said.
"How is the idiot anyway?" Thomas asked. He'd always hated Aris. And even Brenda would admit that she was kind of getting tired of him.
"He's good."
"And how are the two of you?" He asked.
She knew he'd seen the signs. She knew that he knew they were worse than before. That it seemed pretend now.
"Can we not talk about this right now?" She asked him.
They walked through the hallways in silence, but not a pleasant kind.Hi baes, thanks for reading this even though it's crap and nobody even ships brenderesa. I'm writing this AN at 11:11 pm so this probably sucks. Bye children
