At an abandoned warehouse...
'How much longer do we have?' I asked, as Freya was lighting candles around a pentagram, while the wolf, Keelin, was still on her chair, tied in the corner.
'Maybe an hour,' the witch said. Hayley stood nearby. 'Assuming they live that long.'
'Do you have everything we need?' Hayley asked.
'Venom from the seven packs, along with Klaus' blood,' Freya said, placing the vials of venom around the pentagram. 'Infused by my magic and magnified by the dark objects. It's going to take all of my strength and more than a little luck, but... it should be enough to fashion a cure to save my brothers.'
' "Should"?' I asked. 'What do you mean "should"?' Just then, Hayley and I both turned, hearing the sound of screeching tires in the distance.
'We got company,' Hayley said.
'Hayley, let me go, please,' Keelin begged. 'If it's vampires, they're going to kill me.'
'They must have been tracking her,' Freya said. 'Hayley, Lilliana, I need more time.'
Hayley and I vamp sped out into the open area. We heard footsteps and turned around suddenly.
'Took a long time,' the leader said, stepping out to meet us, 'but we finally caught you.'
'Or maybe I just stopped running.' We fought them, taking on the few that were there, but when we turned around, there were several more surrounding us. We continued to take on more, but more and more kept coming. The leader stepped up to us again.
'Your bite is nasty,' he remarked to Hayley. 'But you're both outnumbered. Give up now, and we'll end this quick.'
'I have a better idea,' she said, her eyes glowing yellow and my eyes shifting to the dark red, with the veins gathering around my eyes. Hayley crouched, and instantly she shifted into a wolf, jumping on top of the man and savagely destroying his body, then taking on several more as I picked off the outliers of the group.
Several laid dead, and after a while, Hayley's bones cracked and shifted, and she moved to her regular human form. At least four vampires got up from the ground, bloodied and worn.
'You want more?' she taunted. 'Come on!' Just then, one of the vampires disappeared into the darkness with a scream, then another. All was still for a moment. Then, slowly, Hayley heard slow, soft footsteps, and someone placed a coat around her shoulders. She turned and enthusiastically threw her arms around Elijah. I limped out slowly, having pulled a wooden stake out of my leg.
'Elijah?' I spoke, tears pricking my eyes. I ran to him, crashing into his arms, and smashed my lips against his. We pulled back from each other after a good minute of kissing. 'I missed you,' I said, and he wordlessly pulled me into his chest as I sobbed.
That evening...
I walked out of the warehouse to see Elijah standing, watching a burning pile of corpses.
'And they say romance is dead,' Elijah quipped. I came to stand beside him and let out a soft chuckle.
'I'll take it.' I grabbed his hand, pulling up his sleeve. To my surprise, the bite mark was no longer there. 'Your infection's gone.'
'You and Hayley saved us,' he replied. 'All of us. I guess Kol and Rebekah couldn't contain their hunger.' He looked at me warmly. 'Now, tell me... how is our niece?' I let out a laugh.
'She's amazing. She's healthy. Happy. She's the perfect little girl. Hayley's raised her so well. And she made Hayley and I promise that one day she'd get her family back. All of them.'
'A child after my own heart,' he said.
'There's just one person left,' I said. Elijah turned to me.
'Let's go get him.'
