"So...," and Semir cleared his throat a bit right at the beginning of his speech "...another young victim of the ZEUS drug was confirmed last night. In almost 3 weeks, there are already 10 cases of overdosing due to this drug."
"We found out that the drug works in a very sophisticated way. It releases its effect very slowly, so young people take large amounts because they think the drug is weak. That relaxing and euphoric feeling will eventually occur, but since the body breaks down the drug poorly and inefficiently, stomach and intestinal problems follow. The kidneys and liver stop working, which will cause a total failure of the organism." Jenny added the key information and Krüger listened to every word carefully.
"Unfortunately, we haven't been able to secure the pure drug yet. But we have clues," and Semir pressed a button on the remote. A photo of an intelligent-looking middle-aged man appeared on the wall screen. "They lead to the Millenium nightclub and its dubious owner, Heinz Ward. However, we don't have enough evidence for his dirty work, and even a recent search of the nightclub brought nothing. We are at a dead end in the investigation."
"That's why we want to ask you, Mrs. Krüger, for permission to infiltrate," Jenny immediately tried it on her boss in the best possible style of politeness. "We want to get in and-"
"We?" the boss interrupted her, wanting more details on the subject, making Jenny slightly nervous. It was probably better not to pretend and gave her the facts straight away.
"Well, better said just me. Paul will be my backup if the situation got worse. I'm going to go to a nightclub to ask for a position as a dancer and hopefully, I will succeed in convincing Ward to hire me for a few days. I'll look around and try to find some evidence to help us finally convict him."
"What a crazy idea," Paul said in annoyance, his hand supporting his chin boringly.
As if this meeting didn't concern him at all, but he was the one with whom Jenny formed the main pair in this case. The others looked at him in surprise, but Jenny was most annoyed. How typical. He was silent during the whole meeting, literally not present at all, and when he bothered to say something, it was at the most inopportune time with the worst possible remark.
"But Renner is right," and Krüger turned back to Jenny with interest. "It's a pretty risky operation for you," she folded her arms over her chest, giving her that stern look.
Semir remained silent, he knew this was going to be a problem. Whether the boss was a little tougher, or someone just spoiled her mood with another wrecked car, she always tried to remain objective and thought about the safety of her employees. Although things weren't easy with him and Paul in this area. But now Jenny should find herself in a similar, unpredictable situation. She had come up with this idea before, but he didn't want to support it until it was urgent. However, the recent death of a young girl and the inability to obtain evidence affected him so much that he declared the situation desperate.
"I am aware of the risks, Mrs. Krüger, but I am willing to take them," Jenny tried to show her confidence and courage. She glanced at Paul to see if he wanted to add something random again, but he still pretended not to be involved. He had his own opinion and didn't need to impose it on anyone. Krüger was still thinking carefully about all of this before making a final verdict.
"Okay then," the boss simply agreed. Semir was surprised by her permission, but Jenny was relieved. "But please be careful and inform me of any news, okay?"
"Of course," Jenny assured her, and Krüger nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, Paul stood up from his chair, which caught their attention. However, he was happy that this bullshit was over and he could finally get back to work. Even though he hated paperwork, he now took anything as an excuse to leave. The others weren't worth looking at, so he silently walked past them and left the boss's office with a slightly annoyed look. This didn't go unnoticed.
