"anyone else think this is sketchy or is it just me?"

turning your head, you look over at marshal. he was one of the best soldiers you had in your squad. thankfully he agreed to head to the underground to help capture the thieves.

"now marshal, if i didnt think you were the right person for this sort of mission i wouldnt have requested you to join." you reply.

his eyes widen.

"its not that squad leader, im fully prepared for anything to occur." he pauses. "just nervous i suppose."

"theres no need to be nervous." erwin announces, inserting himself into the conversation. "give it your best soldier."

immediately marshal flushes red,  giving  his superior booming 'yes sir!' as well. miche looks down at you with a hint of enthusiasm before you return with a playful shrug. the scouts assigned to this mission were all standing at the entrance to the underground. looking down you can see just how dark it appears, sending your nerves on a frenzy.

"alright. we are heading into unknown territory. follow my every command to ensure safety." the bushy eyebrowed man spoke. "our objective is to capture the thieves. understood?"

the six of you stand at attention and salute to the captain. finally you all descended down into the darkness of the underground. you stayed close to marshal. you can easily tell the poor man was scared. who wouldnt be? only the worst most gruesome stories were spewed about the place you were heading into.

the first thing you noticed was the cold. if you werent wearing your survey corps cloak you'd be shivering. lights illuminated off the ceiling. a warm shade of orange sprinkled around the unknown city. it was breathtaking. it was an entire society just beneath the surface you took advantage of.  your lips part as you take in the beauty of the harsh underground youve heard so much about.

"captain smith, thank you for joining us in this mission."

oh shit, you're on a mission. right.

turning your attention to erwin, he holds himself high. he has officially switched to strictly busniess erwin. fantastic, hes boring again. as the two men speak you stand there waiting for orders. your eyes move around checking your surroundings as you make sure to know which buildings can withstand the grapples of your hooks. the military police has staged a trade in hopes the thieves would fall for it. the survey corps will be watching from the insides of the two story buildings to catch them.

beginning to walk away, a large hand grabs onto your wrist. you quickly try to snatch your hand away only for your body to settle, recongizing the oh so familiar touch.

towering over you erwin glides his eyes across your face then down to your scar. he orders everyone to get into position but does nothing to move himself or you.

"is everything okay?" you ask impatiently.

he nods.

"captain." you begin. "may i remind you we are somewhere unknown. now isnt the time for your pointless lectures."

"i am aware." he states.

sighing you grab onto his hand with your free one and moves it away yet still grasping it . "erwin." you mumble softly. "lets just get this over with, when we head back ill stop by your office and we can read together."

you pause, looking up at him, "is that okay?"

erwin takes a deep breath as he weighs out that request. its very rare between you two to read together. it was intimiate, and that scares the fuck out of you. whenever one of those moments occurred, you would read to erwin as he catches up on his paperwork. but the last time he took the chance to sit across from you and smile so softly it almost made you want to kiss him. almost. but of course you ran away claiming to meet up with your squad for further training, leaving things awkward between you two.
