What!?

The silence reigned in the apartment for a few moments. Makoto didn't know where to look, what to feel, what to say...

"Sis I-"

"I'm going to be late for work."

Sae interrupted without looking at her and went towards her room. Her voice sounded... off. Not angry, not sad, just off, like she tried to contain emotions she normally wouldn't allow herself to feel. She slammed the door shut. Hard, very hard.

It seems like Akira managed to really tick her off.

Makoto, now alone in their kitchen, found herself... confused. She knew she should be feeling terrified of what would happen once her sister came out of her room, but she actually felt calm. She didn't understand why.... Sae had enough reasons to be mad at her, she had always told her she didn't want her to date anyone, to concentrate on her studies.

"... would you feel better if I slept on the floor?..."

And now, not only was she involved with a boy.

"... seems like my cocky repertoire is good for something..."

But she had lied about it to her.

"... that's such a Makoto thing to say. Leave it to you to worry about something as silly as that..."

And that boy had just spent the night with her.

"... I like how she makes me feel..."

And he just happened to have a criminal record.

"... when I see her or spend time with her, I feel a sense of peace. Of joy..."

She should be thinking desperately about how to approach her sister about all of this, how to convince her that Akira was as good for her as she thought.

"... no one else has ever made me feel that way and I would do anything for her..."

She should be trying to anticipate what her sister would do or say, trying to come up with a plan to counteract her.

"... I don't--I would never hurt her or use her. She's too important to me..."

She sighed. Instead of doing what she needed to do, Makoto kept remembering Akira non stop. The things he had said that had made her heart flutter. The way he looked at her like there was no one else in the world, his teasing, his smiles, his touch.

Makoto blushed.

Ok, maybe don't keep thinking about his touch. Definitely don't keep thinking about his touch.

Maybe the calmness came from knowing exactly what she wanted to happen, as unlikely as it was. She wanted to keep Akira in her life, and her sister to be okay with it. She didn't want to lose him, no matter the reason. In so little time he had become someone so important to her, she wasn't going to be separated from him. But how could she convince Sae? She never, not once, was able to change her sister's mind, not even for trivial things. Making her accept Akira would be almost impossible

"Makoto..."

Although, maybe after hearing the full story of what had happened to him, Sae would come around. Her sister was adamant about justice, she would find what the system did to Akira unforgivable.

"Makoto."

It could work... I just need to remain calm. Explain as well as I can the situation and win Sae over. Yes! Just stay calm and collected, treat the conversation as a trial, don't offer what is not asked, keep my nerves at bay and...
