.Chapter 24: All the reasons why.

Start from the beginning

"Sending them to the other side nowwould be suicide." Pogo mentions, hoping to get through to his master someway. "Marah wouldn't want this, she'd want to keep training."

"Don't. Don't mention her." Reginald clenches his jaw, the thought of his missing daughter weighing down on his chest. "You've grown too attached, my old friend. Lost your objectivity."

"And you've grown so detached, you've lost your humanity." Pogo fires back. "No wonder Ella can't look at you anymore."

"What humanity?" Reginald sneers, not wanting the reminder of the cold shoulder he's been given from his wife since their daughter's disappearance.

"I won't let you hurt them." Pogo mutters, not backing down from the argument.

"Won't let me?" Reginald scoffs, finding some humor in the idea that Pogo believes he has any power at all. "You forget yourself, Pogo. They're my children. And they will dowhatever it is I ask of them. If you disapprove, perhaps you might find other employment."

"I can be gone by morning." Pogo states, not wanting to back down from Reginald's challenge but also not wanting to leave the remaining children and Ella alone with Reginald.

"Why wait? You can be gone in an hour." Reginald smirks, turning his back, he walks out of the door and leaves a solemn Pogo standing in the room.

An hour later, the children all stand in number order as Pogo says goodbye to each of them. Pogo hands over an ornate box, one which Klaus had stolen two timelines ago, towards Marcus. Pogo nods his head, signalling that Marcus needed to take over giving Reginald his pills to keep him from murdering the kids.

"I don't tattoo children." Pogo comments, turning around from me and Five, facing back to his stuff as he starts putting it away.

"Swell, I'm not here for the ink." Five states, unwrapping himself from Marah a little, moving to just holding her hand as his thumb rubs soothing circles on the back of her hand. "We're here because us and you have a mutual friend."

"Sir Reginald Hargreeves." I answer, though I know he already knows who I am. "My father."

Pogo sighs, looking up towards us, more towards me. He looks at me and Five's hands before looking back at me, a frown on his face. "Whatever he wants, I'm not interested. But I'm glad back home Ms. Marah."

"I don't think you understand.I'm one of his children." Five continues, pulling Pogo's attention away from me, and a confused look to appear on his face. "From another timeline."

"Another timeline?" Pogo questions, continuing to clean up his tattoo stuff.

Five chuckles, a smile pulling at his lips, though he doesn't let it show. "As crazy as it sounds, you and I have met before. Back in 1963, when you were a diaper-wearing chimpin dire need of a manicure. I don't know if you remember, but I have a scar to prove it."
