♡Chapter 7- The Phone Call♡

Start from the beginning

"Hey, Hails? Here's an idea. Wanna meet up with me sometime this weekend?"

Hailey rubbed her nose that was tickling her before paying attention again. "I have band rehearsals this weekend, remember? I don't think I can. It's on this Saturday.." She responded, her knees raising up as they pressed against her chest.

"Hailey, you do know there are two free days off school on the weekend right? What about Sunday? Are you free on Sunday?"

Hailey's face flushed red, completely embarrassed. She giggled sheepishly before answering his question. "Uh, yes. I'm free on Sunday."

"Great! Let's do a hangout together. Just you and me. How does that sound?"

Hailey fiddled with her hair before speaking up. "What about Jake though? Shouldn't we invite him? He's apart of our trio after all.." By this point, Drew was laying his body down onto his bedsheets, staring up at the ceiling.

"He won't mind. Jake and I have sometimes done some things without you. Like, he'll come over to my place and we'd play video games like Call Of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Genshin Impact, you get the jist.."

Hailey wondered for a minute or two, soon coming to a decision. "Alright, sure! We'll meet up! Where are we hanging out?" Hailey could feel a wave of excitement slowly flow through her veins.

"So, this place ain't in Rosemeadow. It's in Clozy Avenue. There's a pretty big field there called 'Acre Field'. Let's both go to that place alone. And we'll go in the evening too. You can see the sunset there and it's a beautiful view! We'll goof around and watch the sunset. It's really cool!"

Hailey grew all the more excited as she giggled. "Damn. How do you know all this, you little smartass?" She joked, laughing more. Drew stroked his neck, a tiny frown approaching his countenance, unbeknownst to Hailey.

"Ah, it's because Zoey and I went there once.."

Hailey stopped laughing as her expression grew concerned. "O-Oh..I'm sorry Drew.." She flicked her tongue against the inside of her mouth, hitting her gums.

"It's okay, Hails. Let's go there and have some fun! It'll definitely make you feel better about this situation. Trust me.."

"I trust you more than myself, Drew. Of course I'll go! What time should we meet up there? You said sometime in the evening, I believe?" Hailey said, playing with her strands of hair.

"Let's go for 6:00pm. How about that? The sun will set during then. It's really gorgeous..And while that happens, we can just be morons. Nobody really goes there, so it'll be just the two of us being idiots."

Hailey nodded her head, absolutely ecstatic. "I'm good for that! I can't wait to chase you endlessly down that field and tackle you down or something!" Hailey replied playfully, hearing Drew snicker.

"Nah, I'll outrun you. Have you seen me in P.E? I'm like lightning, ya beast!"

Hailey and Drew burst out into laughter at Drew's remark, tears filling both their eyes. It wasn't long before they calmed themselves down, taking slow breaths.

"Anyway, Hailey. I better hang up and let my phone continue charging before it passes away and I have to arrange a funeral for it.."

Hailey giggled for the last time, sniffling a small bit. "Sure, Drew. I'll see you at school. It's Friday tomorrow after all. Atleast, there's that!"

"Exactly! Thank God it's Friday tomorrow. Goddamn..Anyways, bye muffin!"

Hailey rolled her eyes, smirking as she did so. "Bye, cupcake~" She said in a flirtatious tone. She heard Drew gag in response.

"Ew, no."

With that, Hailey heard Drew hang up the call. A snort escaped her mouth as she laughed to herself, shaking her head. She then stood up from her bed, walking over to the door that led her outside.

"God, he's so silly.." She muttered under her breath, opening her bedroom door. Suddenly, Hailey's eyes widened as she saw none other than her brother Zander, standing outside the door with his arms folded. Hailey could feel her heart stop beating. A pin drop could be heard in the still silence.

"I knew it! You like him! You like Jake!" Zander blurted out abruptly. Hailey's eyebrows furrowed as she became defensive.

"Were you eavesdropping on my phone conversation with Drew?!" She questioned quite aggressively.

Zander turned his gaze towards the floor. "....Maybe."

Hailey groaned, hiding her face in her palms. "Christ Almighty, Alexzander! Mind your damn business!" Hailey shouted at him, getting an unfazed look from Zander in return.

"Sorry, I wanted the truth. I knew you would tell Drew some things. So, you like Jake. I bloody knew it.." Zander replied, still crossing his arms.

"Okay, fine! I like Jake for heaven's sake! You now know! Now leave me alone and stop interrogating me about it!"

Hailey walked away, brushing past him in a huff. Zander was still unfazed, watching his sister walk down the stairs. "Tch, of course she likes Jake. It was insanely obvious. I just needed some clarity.." Zander murmured to himself, leaning against the banister at the top of the staircase.

Hailey, now downstairs, pulled out her phone from her pocket and clicked onto her messages app. Pressing her finger firmly against Drew's contact, she started to type a text to send to him.

Hailey:
Drew, Zander found out! He was eavesdropping on us. Now he knows omg..😡🤦‍♀️

Drew:
Oh, for God's sake..LMFAO
