Hyunjin glanced back at Felix, finding a confused expression on the blonde's face which matched his own. Still, both of them got up and made their way through the hallways and towards the living room where someone Hyunjin's never seen stood in the middle of the room.
Long black hair, sharp red nails and a tight black dress with lace decorating its collar. Pointed red high heels tapped against the creaky wooden floor as the woman was looking around in what Hyunjin could only think of as poorly suppressed disgust. Diamond bracelets, probably more expensive than Hyunjin's car, dangled as she kept her hands crossed while a long finger tapped her arm. Her lipstick, bright red, combined with a smoky eyeshadow and the rest of the outfit, made her seem more out of place than anyone, including Felix, has ever looked in this house.
Even before Felix spoke up, Hyunjin already knew who she was.
'Mum?', Felix breathed out, his voice so small and shaky that Hyunjin only wanted to take his hand and bring him back to his room, to lock the door and keep the blonde away from her.
'Felix, there you are', the woman exclaimed, a smile that seemed more plastic than anything, appeared on her face as she turned towards the two boys.
'Wh- what are you doing here?', the blonde asked as he took a small step back and curled in on himself, the sight breaking something in Hyunjin's heart. The woman looked at him in surprise before she let out an obnoxious chuckle while covering her mouth with the palm of her hand.
'What kind of question is that, me and your father came back from America, that's why I'm here', she raised an eyebrow while placing a hand against her cocked hip, 'Your birthday present is parked in front of our house, if that's what you're worrying about', she added and Hyunjin could only blink slowly at her as he stood frozen by Felix's side.
'Um, thank you', the blonde lowered his head, gulping loudly and seeming adamant on staring at a spot on the floor instead of looking up again.
'What are you standing around for? Go get your things and let's go back home', the woman said, making both boys' heads snap towards her.
'What?', the two blurted out simultaneously, Felix's coming out as more of a whisper while Hyunjin's question resonated loudly around them.
The woman lifted up an irritated eyebrow at their reaction while a storm started roaring in Hyunjin. The thought of not having Felix by his side and letting the blonde go back to the place that made him so unhappy and unloved making Hyunjin's head spin with anger.
'Felix is not going anywhere', Hyunjin took a step forward, half hiding the other man behind himself as he glared at the woman.
'Who do you think you are? I'm his mother, you have no say in this', she snapped at him and when Hyunjin subtly glanced back he noticed that Felix had started trembling which only increased his desire to just lock him and his lover in his bedroom, away from her, away from this tainted family.
He turned back to the boy's mother with sharpened eyes.
'I'm the one who's been by Felix's side the entire time after he almost fucking died, while you've been too busy attending your stupid meetings to even give your son a goddamn call', he nearly growled the last words, making the woman's eyes widen and just as she let out a sarcastic chuckle and was about to start speaking up, her words were cut off.
'Right', Daeun stepped forward, Hyunjin not even having noticed that his own mother was still in the room.
'If the issue is the money that you are sending us for Felix's stay, then you can stop with them, we'll find a way to cope if Felix prefers to stay here until he's fully healed', she looked at the blonde, waiting to hear his opinion as well but before he could say anything the black-haired woman spoke up:
