The next day was Sunday so I didn't have many options on where to look for work, but nevertheless, I got up as early as I could and was out the door half an hour later.I made my way straight to The Ministry to find Hermione, I was hoping she'd be able to help. I was hoping she was the same as she'd been at school and would be at work, I wasn't disappointed.
I found her in the main entry way exiting one of the fireplaces, she'd clearly just arrived.
She spotted me straight away as I was the only other person who appeared to be in the building, she waved politely and came straight over to me.
Wrapping her arms around me in an embrace she said, "Y/N how are you? What brings you here so early on a Sunday?"
"You actually" I said smiling, "I wasn't sure you'd be here actually, but I thought if you were the Hermione I remembered, you'd be here" I laughed nervously and she smiled.
"Let's go to my office," she led me to the lifts and we made our way to her large office. It was brightly lit, with one wall being all windows, she had a large table and chair with a computer and lots of paperwork. Her other walls were floor to ceiling bookcases with hundreds of books. So Hermione.
With a wave of her wand a tray of coffee and biscuits landed on the table in front of us.
"So, how can I help?" She asked brightly, adding a spoon of sugar to her mug.
"I need a job, desperately"
"Don't you work for Witches Clean?" She asked confused.
"They let me go a while ago, I, erm kind of work for Draco Malfoy now" I blushed slightly.
She nodded once but didn't comment, "well, what kind of job are you after? What are your skills?"
I felt my skin flush brighter, I didn't really have any skills to speak of, I told her as such.
She sipped her coffee slowly, deep in thought. "Actually, there may be a position" her face lit up.
"My assistant has a few days left until she leaves for her maternity, I have yet to fill the position, as you can imagine, it's hard to fill her shoes, but I'm sure you'd do fine, if that's something you'd be interested in?" Her voice went from light and airy to slight concern, clearly unsure on my thoughts to being her assistant.
"Honestly Hermione, I'd be so grateful" we beamed at each other,
"Perfect, you could come in tomorrow to meet Andrea and she can show you the ropes before she has to leave"
We chatted for a while whilst we had our coffee and biscuits, she was telling me what life was like now she was Minister of Magic.
"It's honestly the dream, I've managed to make so much difference already in such a small amount of time. I'm the youngest Minister ever, did you know that?" I saw a smug smile spread across her face, not an arrogant kind, but a super proud one.
"Absolutely" I beamed proudly, "I'm so happy for you"
"Thank you!" She couldn't hide the broad smile now and I saw her cheeks flush with colour, it was about time 'this muggle-born' had her time to shine.
"But enough about me," she said as she dipped another jammie dodger into her coffee, "what about you?"
"Erm, what about me?" I asked cautiously,
"Well, you're working for Malfoy now? How'd that happen?"
"Oh, well," I explained all about the letter I had received from Witches Clean and how I happened upon Draco's advertisement, how my interview went and how it's been so far, leaving out Neville of course. She nodded silently throughout, letting me get everything off my chest in one swoop.
