It was Wednesday 6 pm. Kara asked Alex to please come over.
"You're here, finally. I need your help!" Kara took her by surprise.
"Okaaay what's going on here? Why is your closet empty and all of your clothes are lying around in your whole apartment?" Alex asked hesitantly, almost as if Kara went crazy.
"I'm going out on a date tonight. To an Italian restaurant. And I don't know what to wear, obviously. Should be fancy but not too much. And of course, make me look good. Something that fits my eyes maybe?" Kara said so fast that it was hard to understand her. "Come on Alex, say something. He's going to pick me up in 40 minutes!" she added.
"Okay, calm down Kara. It's just a date. Sit down and I'll try to find the perfect outfit for your evening," Alex answered finding her sister's behavior funny.
Kara did as commanded.
Alex rummaged through mountains of clothes. How long would Kara need to tidy up this mess? Three hours minimum.
After ten minutes Alex announced that she found a dress that suits her to go on a date in an Italian restaurant, that's fancy but not too fancy.
"Come here, Kara. What do you think about that dress?" Alex showed Kara a simple black dress, knee-length and some ruffles. She also picked out a black coat and sneakers to not make the outfit look too fancy. "And then a silver necklace and silver earrings and then you're ready for the evening."
Kara agreed to Alex's suggestion and quickly changed into that dress. Only 15 minutes left.
She put on little makeup and wore her hair straight.
"Do you think that's okay, Alex?" Kara asked doubtfully.
"You look stunning, Kara," Alex encouraged her.
If Kara didn't like her look it was too late anyway because seconds later Mike arrived. Kara quickly left her apartment so he couldn't catch a glimpse of the mess.
-------------------------
They arrived at the restaurant where they were shown their table by a waitress. Mike was a gentleman and quickly pulled out Kara's chair to help her sit down. "Thank you," Kara reacted shyly.
„That's how a gentleman should behave," he answered.
Soon a waitress came to take their orders. Both went for a pizza and soda.
While waiting for the food they talked about things apart from work.
"So where are you from, Kara? Did you grow up here in National City?" Mike asked.
"Yes, my parents, my sister and I lived in a small house offside town. The garden was so huge, that my sister and I practically lived outside. There were so many things you could do. I loved it there. Where are you from?"
"I also grew up in National City but in the middle of town," Mike answered. "You seem to have a good relationship with your sister. She was there when I picked you up, wasn't she?" he asked.
"How did you know she was there?" Kara said with surprise. "But yes, she was there to help me choose the perfect outfit for tonight," she admitted blushing.
"I thought I heard someone wishing you good luck before you opened the door. So, I just guessed it was her," he explained. "And by the way, you do look stunning. And I also like your dress to your sneakers."
"Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself," she said jokingly. "I like that bowtie."
Talking to Mike was easy. They had much in common and could laugh about the same things. He seemed interested in Kara and asked her many questions about her persona. And what Kara liked about all that was, that they had eye contact the whole time and it wasn't strange. They were so deep in conversation that none of them recognized the waiter who put their food on the table in front of them. After the waiter left, they could smell food and saw that it already was there.
