The weather app lied.
It said it was going to be only partly cloudy today so Jungkook said that he'd like to walk around when you asked what he wanted to do after you both cleaned up in the kitchen. You insisted on wandering farther into the park, spotting a gazebo you wanted to laze at to savor the Saturday air, which is where you both are, quietly listening to the sound of the rain crashing onto the ground.
Jungkook didn't want to tell you he'd already been here and that he already covered his required walking hours for the week. He suggested heading outside because it was getting harder for him to breathe, stuck inside his medium-sized apartment with you.
He'd been feeling much better and was alerted that the investigation had closed. He zoned out after Mr. Han told him that he—that you are safe. Jungkook messaged you that he'll take charge of lunch in celebration, so you arrived at his apartment greeted with a premium version of his favorite instant ramen - eggs, kimchi, and spam all included - and a proud smile on his face.
The way you looked at him - with the softest eyes and the sweetest smile already had his insides melting, but he completely lost it when you walked towards him and hugged him, your arms wrapped around his torso - careful not to touch his wound - and your head gently placed on his chest. He stood frozen until he heard your deep breaths and he gingerly wrapped his arms around your shoulder.
"___. It's literally just ramen."
You snorted and looked up at him and he's seen enough to know you were close to crying but he didn't comment on it.
"It's premium ramen, Jeon, and you made it for me."
"Is everything okay?" He asked.
"Yeah," you answered. "It's just... I heard that the investigation has closed. My parents said there's nothing to worry about and they even indirectly apologized for pushing me to all those men, especially Han-jae. And Mr. Han said there's no other immediate threat to me, to you. And you just made food on your own and that means you're getting better—"
"Hey, I've made sandwiches before," he pouted.
You laughed then, causing more of his insides to melt.
"But I get you," he continued. "It felt nice to hear about things being okay that's why I, uh, decided to make something. It's not much, really. I owe you and your entire family so much and I—"
"Jeon, you saved my life. I owe you so much. I know it's your job but—"
"Job or not, I couldn't let anybody hurt you," he'd said.
The tension escalated then, as you both looked at each other, clearly unsure how to proceed.
He spoke first and ordered you to eat and the rest of lunch was mostly consumed in silence, with you merely complimenting that it was really good. He didn't miss the way your eyes focused on the food and shyly turned away the few times that you caught him looking at you, though.
"You know what's funny? I still remember the first time I asked you to have lunch with me and you said no." You said playfully, already over the bitter rejection from that day. "And now, I can't count how many meals we've shared."
"Guess I needed to get shot for that," he joked, causing you to scowl.
"Don't make jokes like that."
The way your face fell was immediate and he wanted nothing more than the smile on your face to return. He didn't really know how, and it frustrated him even more when you proceeded to wash the dishes, complete with the scrubbing gloves you bought him that only you use, and he couldn't help but smile, something he realized he does every time you clean up.
