then the group heard a slow song come on.

y/n turns to max, planning on talking to her, or even dancing with her for fun.

"max.." y/n calls.

max turns to y/n.

but y/n was quickly interrupted, by lucas speaking up.

"hey." lucas smiles. "um, it's nice, right?"

a smile slowly started appearing on max's face, once she got the hint of what he was trying to do.

"you want to, um.." lucas continues. "you want to, like.. you know? like, just you and me?"

"are you trying to ask me to dance, stalker?" max teases.

"no, of course not." lucas lies. "unless. you want to?"

max rolls her eyes playfully. "so smooth." she jokes. "come on."

max takes lucas' hand and they go out to the dance floor.

lucas smiles as max places her hands on his shoulder, and he places his hands on her waist.

"hey, zombie boy." a girl walks up to will, that the party didn't know.

"do you wanna dance?" the girl asks will.

"um.. i don't.." will stutters.

mike lightly nudges will in the arm to get him to focus.

"uh- i mean.."

mike nudges him again, harder this time.

"i mean.. i mean, yeah. sure." will replies.

the girl has a smile appear on her face. "cool."

they go onto the dance floor too.

the girl places her hands onto will's shoulder as will placed his hands awkwardly on her waist.

y/n and mike just looked at the people dancing.

"wish me luck, mike, y/n. i'm going in." dustin decides as he takes a deep breath.

y/n still was just miserable, watching lucas and max dance.

"y/n."

y/n didn't respond, she was so fixated on watching lucas and max, feeling anger rise.

"y/n," mike calls again.

y/n finally turned to him.

"you okay?" mike asked, concerned for her. "you keep staring at something."

"yeah, i'm fine." y/n quickly replied, as she looked away from lucas and max.

y/n miserably looked at all the other people dancing, with mike also miserable in his own thoughts too, of eleven still not being here.

y/n sighed. "i just wish this wasn't so fucking complicated."

mike huffed. "i agree. i wish this was much easier."

"yeah, i mean, i wanted to take max as a friend, and we could take pictures with jonathan's camera or something, but- but i guess lucas decided to ask her, so that ruins everything." y/n ranted, pouring her heart out.

then another slow song came on, with y/n glancing over at lucas and max once again.

then y/n sees eleven come in, she thought eleven looked really pretty, she smiled as she saw eleven walk in.

"i'm pretty sure eleven's not gonna show up." mike says with defeat.

"she's right there, dipshit." y/n points over to eleven, looking like a lost puppy.

eleven spotted y/n and smiled back.

eleven sees mike and walks over to him.

"you look... beautiful." mike compliments el. "do you wanna dance?"

"i don't know how." el responded.

"i don't either." mike agreed. "wanna learn?"

el slowly nodded her head yes. mike took el's hand and brought her to the dance floor.

lucas looked at max while still dancing with her, and smiled at the girl.

while max was dancing with lucas, she leaned in, and pressed her lips against his.

y/n watched as lucas and max kiss.

she wanted to be happy for max, she really did, max is her friend, but she just felt.. off about the idea of lucas being with max.

lucas pulled away, smiling like an idiot at max.

max smiled back, then she rested her head on his shoulder as they continued dancing.

mike was still dancing with el.

mike leaned in towards el, and el leaned in too, then he kissed her.

they both pulled away smiling and rested their foreheads against each other.

and that was the night, y/n was alone at the snowball.

will came over at the bleachers, next to y/n.

"what happened to you with the girl?" y/n curiously asked will.

"i don't know, i guess i just wasn't really having fun." will responded. "so i came back here. why are you here?"

"i wanted to hang out with max as friends, and then lucas asked her to dance unexpectedly, so here i am, i guess." y/n responded, as she looked down.

"well, you can hang out with me." will offered with a small smile. "i'm not leaving your side. you've been my best friend since childhood."

y/n smiled at will, at least having a friend to hang out with tonight, and that kind of made up with for everything.
