"Oh, Kenma?"

The quiet boy turned to look at you, curiosity lingering in his eyes- giving you his full attention. "Yes, Y/n?"

"Is it ok if we eat lunch together?" You really wanted to have lunch with your new friend, considering you didn't know anyone else at this school and you were still too nervous to try talking to new people since it was only your first day.

Kenma, to your relief, nodded. "That's fine with me. You're much quieter than the guys in my club. I've been trying to look for excuses to not sit with them at lunch."

Your eyes widened. "You don't want to eat with your club?"

"Not really. They're really loud and annoying, they don't even let me play my games during breaks."

You blinked a few times. "What club are you in?"

"Volleyball."

You gasped.

Kenma turned to look at you, a confused yet slightly concerned look spreading across his face. "Is everything alright?"

You rubbed the back of your head nervously, putting the best smile on your face that you could manage. "Ah, well... back at my old school, I was the manager for the boys volleyball club. And I didn't think you'd play sports."

He shrugged. "I'm not interested in it much, if I'm being honest. I don't care much for anything physical that'll make me exhausted."

"Then why are you playing it?"

"Kuro."

It was your turn to look at him in confusion. "Kuro? Is that a person?"

Kenma nodded. "My childhood friend. We've lived next door to each other since I was 7. He got me into playing volleyball when we were younger, and I really just stick with it because of him."

You nod in understanding. "That's sweet. But you shouldn't feel forced to play if you don't want to."

He shrugged. "I don't really feel forced. And I'd feel kinda bad if I quit. They seem to need me quite a bit, especially with my intellect."

"I see. What position do you play?"

"Setter."

Your eyes widened. "Setter? Like Toru?"

"Who's Toru?"

You flushed a deep red. "Um... well... he- he's a setter from my old school. He's a third year now and is the captain of the team."

Kenma's eyes captured the blush spreading across your cheeks, along with the fondness held in your eyes when you talked about Oikawa. "You like him, don't you?"

You flinched, avoiding eye contact. "Well... yeah. He and I were dating for years...."

"What happened? Are you two not together anymore?"

You shook your head, a sad expression filling your eyes. "My parents and all our friends from the team told me to break up with him."

Kenma's eyes widened, picking up on something you hadn't realized. He remained silent, patiently awaiting your explanation.

You sighed, looking out the window and resting your chin on the hand of your now propped up arm. "It might be for the best, I guess."

"How so?" He usually wouldn't, but he wanted to hear the reason. He feared it was exactly what he thought it meant.

You turned to face him, a small smile tugging at your lips. "I don't think either of us wanted a long distance relationship. It would be hard to see each other and go on dates if we're in two different prefectures."

'She doesn't know what that could've meant? Did no one tell her that he was cheating? Wait, that doesn't mean he cheated... but it sounds like it. No one would make someone break up with the person they're dating just for long distance- it doesn't make sense. Did this Toru guy do something that everyone else found out about and make everyone want to protect Y/n from heartache?'

"Kenma?" You noticed the boy was lost in thought.

He flinched, meeting your worried gaze. "Hm?"

"Whatcha thinking about?" You gave a slight smile.

Kenma felt bad about thinking about it, but he wanted to check with you. "Was Toru a good boyfriend?"

You looked at the boy in surprise. "Of course! He always took me on dates when he wasn't busy with volleyball, and I should know when he wasn't busy with it since I was their manager. He always told me how much he loves me and was always gentle. Even when.... Uh, actually, nevermind."

Kenma noticed you cut yourself off, becoming extremely flustered all of a sudden. "You two had sex?"

You flinched, then nodded shyly while not making eye contact. "Mhm."

Kenma dropped the conversation, leaving it at that.

'She looks like Kuro's type. He'll be real happy to meet her, then extremely upset when he finds out she's still in love with her ex... who happened to take her virginity. Maybe I won't introduce the team to her. Might not end well, especially if they want to try asking her to be our manager. Something tells me she feels like she's still a part of her old team.'

"Where's Kenma?"

The libero shrugged. "Haven't seen him."

The tall boy with messy jet black hair sighed, a frown spreading across his face. "He must be trying avoid eating with us again."

A boy with a mohawk looked up in excitement. "Can I go look for him and bring him here?"

The bedhead boy shook his head. "Nah, just leave him be. I'll talk to him later when I pick him up for practice."

"Kenma?"

"Yeah, Y/n?" He turned to look at you with his golden cat-like eyes.

"Can you come to the lunch room with me?"

"Why?"

"I want to get some pudding."

"Ok. Why do you want me to come with you?"

"Cuz we're friends! And... I'm still kinda nervous to walk around the school by myself."

Kenma sighed, getting up from his seat. "Ok. Let's go."

You stood up, walking next to him. "You're really coming with me?"

He nodded, a small smile on his lips as he turned to make eye contact with you. "I wanted some pudding as well."

You smile as you walk with your new friend to get yourselves some pudding.

Bonus!:

"Mm! This school's pudding is so good!"

He nodded. "Yeah, I like it. Not as much as this apple pie I once had at a cafe nearby."

"Cafe?"

"Mhm. Their sweets are really good. They also have a good selection of drinks, like milk teas, bubble teas, various coffees, and a whole bunch of other things."

You beamed at the quiet pudding head. "We should go there together sometime!"

Kenma hummed, a smile on his face. "We should."
