"Guys!!!" Hanabi threw the doors open, creating a large 'bang' that echoed throughout the rooftop. "I did it! I finally did it!"
"You did it?!" Megumi was quick to catch on.
"It's about damn time!" Chiyo shouted.
"Oh! How did it go?" The only male in the group asked curiously.
"It was perfect! Absolutely perfect!" Hanabi pulled a picture out of her bag and all but shoved it into the faces of her lunch time friends.
Megumi took the picture and the rest crowded around. Hanabi only looked on proudly as she watched for their reactions.
"Uhm...Hanabi, what are we looking at?" Tadano finally asked after watching his friends flip the picture over and over again, trying to make sense of it.
"I finally finished my very first pond with an underground viewing window!!!"
The rooftop shook with the force of the three bodies slamming into it.
"What's wrong with you guys?" She asked in confusion.
Megumi rubbed her forehead in irritation, "I forgot who we were talking to."
"Well, it's part of her charm, right?" Chiyo laughed.
Hanabi furrowed her eyebrows, "I'm so confused. I told you guys I was working on it," she said as she took her usual spot against the building.
Tadano was the first one to get up from the ground. "We thought you were talking about your confession to Takashi."
"Oh! I did that too!" She said. "Like, last week?" She tried to remember the exact day.
"What?! And you didn't tell us?!" The girls were suddenly in her face.
"Sorry, I forgot," she laughed.
"And? Details girl!"
"Are you guys together now? We demand to meet him!"
Hanabi felt a smile lift her cheeks as she smiled dreamily, "I'm sure you'll meet him soon. We're engaged!"
". . .hah?!?!"
"See?" She pulled her newly gifted firefly pendent out from her shirt. He gave her a ring, mostly for formalities, but due to the nature of her work it was given together with the necklace so she can wear it around her neck.
She loved her necklace. It reminded her every minute of the firefly that he gifted her with cupped hands. It was a fleeting glow, but it was beautiful, and warm.
"Wait wait wait, you're engaged? You do understand what that means, right?" Chiyo asked.
"It means you're getting married!" Megumi shouted before she could answer.
"Of course I know that," Hanabi laughed, "I was surprised too."
"And this happened last week? As soon as you confessed?" Tadano asked curiously.
Chiyo was worried about her friend. "Are you sure about this, Hanabi? It just seems a little..."
"Too fast." Megumi finished.
"Well...Papa said we can't get married until I graduate, but Takashi and I decided to wait until he finishes college too," Hanabi explained.
"Ranka-san is okay with it?" Chiyo asked.
She hummed affirmatively. "He asked Papa about it awhile ago. Papa told me he's glad it's him."
The three friends shared glances. "If he's fine with it...I guess he must be a decent guy, right?" Megumi asked the group.
