Y/n's POV:
We were sitting in the dining hall and Harriet was telling me about the girl she sits next to in biology, "She's really kind and really smart, I don't know why she isn't taking the AP class and I really want to ask her out, I just don't know how." she said,
"How close are you, as friends?" I asked, "Oh, hey Peter." I noticed him walk up to the table
"Hi Y/n, do you want to hang out tonight to work on the project?"
"Ok, sure. But could we do it at your place? Mine's a bit of a mess from moving." I answered, our house was a mess, and I had been trying to clean up more now that my Father had a job again he was just leaving empty bottles on the floor because he was "too busy" to pick them up. I messaged him to let him know where I was, not expecting him to reply.
After school, I met Peter at the school gates and we headed toward his apartment. "...so my Aunt May looks after me," he explained, "but I don't think she'll be home yet anyway and she's always pretty relaxed about having friends over." I looked down at the sidewalk and thought about what it would be like to live with someone other than my Father.
"What are your parents like?" he asked, just trying to make small talk.
"Oh, my Mom passed away when I was a baby and my fa-Dad is pretty strong." I answered, trying to think of an adjective that people would usually use. In the past teachers had said that he was strong for raising me without my Mom.
"Yeah, that must have been hard for both of you." He said.
We ended up walking back to his apartment in silence, I couldn't help but feel like all the dead parent talk was a bit of a buzz-kill. We had been trying to work on the project for almost an hour but we just kept getting distracted. "Do you just want to watch something?" he asked.
"What have you got?" I practically jumped up from the table, I would much rather do that than Shakespeare. And after he found out I had never seen Star Wars, I didn't really have much of a choice.
We watched "A New Hope" and were about to start the next movie when I clocked the time. "Oh, shit. I need to go" I began to rush,
"Oh, ok." He said and grabbed my hoodie which I slung over my shoulder, he moved in for a hug, to which I awkwardly obliged before saying "Hang on, that didn't feel right," and we hugged again before rushing out the door
"Bye Pete!"
