Mariana's POV

I didn't see Tommy for a few more weeks
It was like he was becoming distant all over again
Freddie said he was helping him, that he'd gone with Tommy to the funeral.

Christmas had come and gone and me and David had spent it at home with Nala
Giving the Shelby's some peace.
He seemed to be more and more enthralled with Clara as the months went on.

Tommy's POV

"How are you today mate?" Freddie asked
"Better" I said, throwing my cigarette to the ground
"Better?" He echoed
"Yeah" I nodded
That's what I told myself anyway.

My life was a mess
I'd ruined a girls life before she died
Her whole family hated me
Mar didn't want to be around me after I tried to kiss her.

And I couldn't blame her
And drinking seemed to do nothing about my shit mood
I needed a distraction
Desperately.

"Hey, why don't we go to the fair, eh? Like old times, you love the fair" Freddie suggested
"I'm upset, not a child Fred" I said
"I know, I'm sorry, but you need cheering up" he said
I thought about it, what was the worst that could happen? Maybe a day of scamming people and stealing horses was what I needed.

Familiarity.
"Okay, fine" I said.

Freddie's POV

Thank god, finally getting him out of the house seemed like a victory
A small one, but I would take it
"Hey Fred" Mar sighed, leaning out of the betting shop window as I waited for Tommy
"Hey beautiful" I smiled, hoping I'd get one out of her too.

She seemed so down as well lately
I wasn't too surprised though, I heard all about Tommy's stupid decision to kiss her after Greta died
I can't imagine it left her feeling very good.

A small smile broke out on her face, before she rolled her eyes at me
"Thought Ada was the beautiful one in your eyes" she teased
Ada was indeed very beautiful
But I didn't want everyone teasing me for thinking it.

"Ada is a kid" I dismissed
I was 7 years older than the girl
"Ada is nearly 17, a woman" she argued
I rolled my eyes at her this time
"I don't mess with kids Mar, she's pretty, okay? and granted she's got a good sense of humour, but she's young, and she's Tommy sister, I'd never do that to him" I said.

He was my best friend
I wouldn't mess around with his family
"Sure" she commented, before Tommy came strolling out of the house, fixing his cap on his head.
