I'm in my room, sulking.
Then Biana suddenly bursts in. "Keefe!Do you know where the Moonlark is?"
I shake my head. "She's prob'ly out kissing other guys," I say grouchily.
Biana looks panicked. "No one knows where she is!"
I stand up. She kind of cheated on me, but I'd never want this on her.
I know exactly where she is.
I know because she took me there.
I run to the field of flowers.
No Sophie.
But I see a sleeping bag with the Moonlark's stuffed elephant.
She's close.
I'm looking around when I see a small cafe.
There's a sign on the door saying "Open Mic."
The Moonlark would like that.
I enter the cafe.
There's a blonde haired girl up on the stage singing.
I'd recognize that melodious voice anywhere.
"La-da-da-da-da, la-da-da-da-da
Da-da-daWe are searchlights, we can see in the darkWe are rockets, pointed up at the starsWe are billions of beautiful heartsAnd you sold us down the river too farWhat about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers? What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters? What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster? What about love? What about trust?
What about us?We are problems that want to be solvedWe are children that need to be lovedWe were willing, we came when you calledBut man, you fooled us, enough is enough, ohWhat about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers? What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
Oh, what about love? What about trust?
What about us?Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
What about us?Sticks and stones, they may break these bones
But then I'll be ready, are you ready?
It's the start of us, waking up, come on
Are you ready? I'll be ready
I don't want control, I want to let go
Are you ready? I'll be ready
'Cause now it's time to let them know we are ready
What about us?What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
So what about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
Oh, what about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
Oh, what about love? What about trust?
What about us?What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?
What about us?"
It's the Moonlark.
She's wearing a dirty grey hoodie and her eyes are puffy and tired, and her hair has obviously seen better days, but she's there.
She's singing, not holding back anything.
The small cafe is tiny, but she gets a standing ovation.
"Encore! Encore! Encore!" The crowd chants. The Moonlark looks at the manager. The manager nods.
"Took me over to your house to meet your family
Introduce me to them, saying that you'd marry me
Then you'd look me in the eye and say, "It's just a joke"
Then you'd kiss me and I'd smile, did you even know?
When you'd say that kinda thing, I'd be excited
Got me hoping maybe one day you would mean it
Always thought I'd only make a fool of someone else
Now you've only gone and made me make one of myselfI guess that flowers aren't just used for big apologies
I guess I should've been more conscious how you spoke to me
'Cause when we'd fight, you'd give me space and not communicate
And for a while I thought that's what I should appreciate
Maybe I was holding onto what I thought you were
But when you think too hard, eventually it starts to hurt
The version of you in my head, now I know wasn't true
Young people fall for the wrong people, guess my one was youI was getting any flight so we could make it work
You'd ignore me, coulda told me you were seeing her
Kinda hate myself for justifying your mistakes
Took a minute but I learned that shit the hard way
Who are you to tell me I can't be heartbroken?
Babe, you had the chance, the door for you was open
If it's what you need to tell yourself to sleep at night
Pretend I haven't found a man who finally treats me rightI guess that flowers aren't just used for big apologies
Young people fall for the wrong people, guess my one was youIf there's anything I've learned, it's you should watch yourself
If it's hurting you, then leave and go and get some help,"
The Moonlark pours her heart out into the song.
The Moonlark is glaring at me, even with my disguise.
Then it hits me.
This song is about us.
What's your favorite song?
Taylor Swift or Meghan Trainor?
Hmm, Taylor Swift for me
