Ruby's POV
I can't believe he's gone. I cry in his bed holding his pillow while I'm in his hoodie, my best friend, roommate , and the person I love the most is gone. " Carmelo why didn't you get out the way after saving that kid?." I wipe my eyes then gets up as I decided to clean up a bit as I move something a flash drive falls on the floor.
I pick it up wiping my tears and goes to my laptop turning it on as I plug it in then sees a video file I go and pulls it up seeing him smiling. God I missed that smile, I cry a bit as I click play on it.
" Okay here it goes Carmelo, stop being such a wimp." I laugh softly as tears roll down my face. I head back to the bed sigh then looks at the camera." So um hey Ruby, I was um crap." The camera turns off then another video plays.
" Take two um hey Ruby, look I was wondering .... Never mind." The camera cuts off again then another video starts as it did I remember that day , we went to the arcade." Okay here it goes. Ruby I'm in love with you , and if you just like me as a friend I'm fine with that all I care about is that your safe and have someone who'll always love you."  " Carmelo hurry up." 
I see myself tackle Carmelo with a hug smiling big as I hold him close as we laugh. I start to cry as I hear that Carmelo loves me.
" so what are you doing Melo? Making a video for your crush?" I laugh as I teases him about it." Maybe maybe not. But you won't know cause it's a secret." I laugh and cries at myself pouting at him." Please tell me."  I wipe my eyes as the camera shuts off as I lay in the bed crying again hugging his sweater.
"I can't believe he loved me." I cry harder as my tears soak up the pillow as I fall asleep.
As I slept I woke up somewhere unfamiliar then I see Carmelo sitting down on a chair just smiling." Hey Ru you okay?" I run to him and just hugs Carmelo crying into his chest." I love you too Carmelo." 
He just smiles and holds me." Is the kid okay." I look up at him and kisses his cheek." Yes he is. " he smiles and nods holding me close.
" I'm sorry that I left you , I had to save that kid.  I'm sorry I put you through that."I just nod and sobs into his chest." I miss you so much I never got to tell you how much I love you."
Carmelo gently grabs my chin and makes me look at him." You just did, even though I'm gone I'm still here." I smile as he leans down and kisses me causing me to wake up.
I softly smile a bit still sad and crying as I think about him as I lay back in bed. 
I smile as I close my book and looks at the kids." Ms.Ruby what happened to the lady in the story? Did she ever get her happy ending?" I smile softly as I hold the book close to my wrinkled chest and nods.
" She did, she was about to see her best friend again 70 years later." I smile as they frown." That's sad that she had to wait that long." One of the other kids said. I nod" it is but you can't rush love or happy ending." I got up carefully and grabs my walker." Alright kiddos it's time for you to go home."
I smile as they nod and leave to go home after I ate my dinner I laid in bed holding Carmelo's sweater from years ago and smiles knowing my time is near an end." I'll see you soon Carmelo." I smile closing my eyes.
3rd person POV
Ruby had passed away in her sleep in the retirement home she was at ,she was smiling at the time she was 98 years old, she lived a happy life, she didn't have no kids but she did volunteer all the time reading stories. When she opened her eyes again she saw Carmelo looking at her and giving her his hand.
" Hey Ru I missed you." She smiles and tackles him with a hug kissing him deeply." I missed you too Melo."
