PHOENIX||chapter six
JEAN GREY WAS TERRIFIED. If Thanos found her, she would be stuck with him forever. God knows what he would do if he got his hands on her after the betrayal she pulled on him when she was a child.
And with this new uncontrollable power of hers, it would quickly be detected by Thanos, who would've definitely liked to use it to get the stones.
The ship was being destroyed, people were taking pods left and right. Jean ran to where she knew the pods were being kept, but she saw the last one fly away right in front of her.
She had promised Valkyrie she would make it safely to Earth, that was the only reason Valkyrie allowed herself to leave without Jean.
Thor quickly caught up to Jean, pulling her in for a hug. But Jean quickly pulled away from the comforting hug.
"Thor, I have to hide", she told him and ran off to a safe spot to stay in. Thor looked confused about why SHE in specific had to hide but quickly ignored it at the sound of his people dying.
Jean was so scared. Once she knew that the population of Asgard was either dead or safely sailing to Earth, she knew those footsteps coming close to the broom closet she was hiding in were not safe.
The twist of the doorknob opening will forever haunt her at night.
Jean quickly placed her index and middle finger to her left temple, telepathically shielding herself from one of Thanos's servants.
The servant opened the door, scanned the place, and growled while slamming the door at the fact that he found nothing.
"Hear me, and rejoice. You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Titan. You may think this is suffering. No... It is salvation. Universal scales tilt toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... For even in death, you have become Children of Thanos", one of Thanos's slimy servants speaks while approaching him.
"Thanos", he mutters, "We have not yet found Jean, we think she may have boarded a pod like the others".
Thanos grumbled, "We'll find her on Earth once we retrieve the Time and Mind Stones".
He began speaking clearly so that the other could hear him, "I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right... yet to fail, nonetheless. It's frightening. Turns the legs to jelly. I ask you, to what end? Dread it, run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. Or should I say", Thanos turns around to face the remaining Asgardians and reveals he has the Power Stone in his gauntlet, "I, AM".
