"Lily, he's here- Take the twins!" James shouted right before reaching for his wife's arm and pulling her toward him in a tight embrace. "No matter what happens I love you Lily-flower, okay?"

Tears were streaming down the pair's faces as their foreheads connected, eyes looking into one another's and lips barely apart. "Please, James come with me- I can't let you, if you don't-" The red-head stammered her words in between could barley even form a sentence.

Nevertheless, he understood it all. James stopped her stuttering by pulling her in for a gentle kiss: shorter than any other, yet the most needed of all time.

As they pulled away a "Please..." was whispered only to receive the response of their wailing children.

"Do this for me sweetheart. Do it for Harry, for Y/n. I have to protect my family and I need you to be safe."

"What's going to protect you?" She sobbed.

There was a slight pause before he uttered his next words, tears rolling down his face.

"Knowing you're okay, my darling. Please go now- I promise it won't be long until we see eachother again..."

Then, Green met Hazel for the very last time as Lily bolted up the stairs with their precious babies in her arms.

So this was love? Sacrificing everything just for the comfort of knowing that your someone was okay?

Well, what had to be done was to be done. Fate broke down the barriers James Potter had put up, though Fate could not take away everything.

But his everything, was currently in grave danger.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lily had run up to the nursery wiping her children's tear stained cheeks. Harry and Y/n Potter we're clinging on to each other for dear life trying to focus on the reassuring words being lulled into their ears. This became trickier to do after a large thud and the huge beam of green light illuminated the stairs.

Lily could barely control her breathing but she had to stay strong. She was strong. She was Lily Evans-Potter.

The twins were lovingly put in one of their cot-beds, Harry by Y/n's side.

"Harry, Y/n, you are so loved, so loved." she hurriedly whispered to them "Mama loves you. Dada loves you. My loves, be safe. Be strong."

The door burst open, automatically exploding into smithereens.

"Move aside." the Dark Lord demanded. Lily, however, refused.

"I said move aside!" he roared.

"Not Harry and Y/n! Please... have mercy... have mercy...Not my babies! Not my babies! Please-I'll do anything!"

"AVADA KEDAVRA!"

The twin's screaming grew louder at the sight of their beloved mother's dead body dropping to the ground.

Uncontrollable, sadistic laughter filled the room, overpowering the young cries of agony.

"Now, for the two of you!" he smiled.

Harry held Y/n's hand and pulled her closer to him- trying to protect her as best as a baby could.- whilst she tried to control her whimpers. They didn't know who who this man was but he wasn't very nice to their Mum and that made him someone they didn't want to be near any longer.

The twins braced themselves for what was about to come.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!"

But instead of meeting their parents once more, they watched the same man who tried to murder them collapse as an ominous puff of dark smoke whisked his heartless soul away.

As this happened, the Potter children faced a torture more painful than death itself- Loss. And the scars from that night never failed to remind them, no matter how much of it they could try to forget.
