Bed

It was late

Very, very late when my eyes fluttered open

And for a moment, I forgot where I was

That happens often

But proof of my safety?

Salazar, snoring softly into my shoulder

And on my lap?

Potxolo

Tipping my head down, I quietly admired Salazar in the kohl black darkness

... I'd just awoken from another dream with him

Yet another in a seemingly endless parade

Though this one ...

This one ...

Narrowing my eyes in concentration, I struggled to recall the dream

... This one I can't remember, not at all

And though I tried my best, nothing came

Surrendering it as forever lost

And feeling the vestiges of sleep still heavy upon me

I shifted my focus from Sal towards the bed

And then, as if my body had a mind all its own, I leaned over and brought my lips to the crown of his head, whispering softly into the darkness as I reached down and squeezed his hand:

"... Salazar?"

"Mmmm ..."

"Let's go to bed."

His face still buried in my shoulder, the smallest signs of him stirring at the suggestion, "Mmmm?"

Another featherlight squeeze from me to him, "Bed. Come, let's go to bed."

Lifting his head up, his pale eyes found mine, "Yes?"

"Yes. Please."

"Yes. Please," He echoed back

The two of us supporting one another as we rose up off the creaking floorboards

My arm around his waist, the two of us fell forward the few paces and into bed together

Too exhausted to bother dipping beneath the blankets

But we didn't fall back asleep

At least not immediately

Instead, he pulled me into him, the heat of his body an unparalleled comfort as he completely pressed against me, my back to him

Potxolo on the pillow, trilling softly

Reaching my hand back and onto him, my fingertips dared lightly trace the softest trails against the side of his leg as he hummed a soft, soothing song into the nape of my neck

We stayed like this until dawn broke

And then we slept until late morning
