Montana
"You've been avoiding me."
I tucked in my lips, taking the beer from my dad. I placed it on the table as he sat down beside me. My father was correct, I've been avoiding him and for obvious reason too. After everything, he'd been calling me and I been ignoring his calls. I could already imagine what he was going to tell me and at the moment I didn't want to hear it. But, I couldn't avoid him for long and now I was at his place so we could talk.
"Sadly." I muttered, slouching on the couch a little. "Where's mom?"
"We're not going to avoid this conversation, Montana." My dad answered and I blew out a breath. I turned to look at him seeing the serious look on his face.
I might as well get this over this.
"What in the world do you have going on?" He asked straightforwardly.
I let out a sigh, "I wish I could explain it but it's complicated."
"You must think I'm dumb, Montana." I tucked in my lips knowing my dad was reading my ass like a book.
I sat up straight, preparing myself to be scolded. The worse thing a child could hear was that their parents were disappointed in them. I didn't want to tell my dad what I had going on, but he had no other choice. I might as well expose the truth.
"There's a few things I haven't told you and mom about me and I guess I should now. When I was fifteen, I got into the street life a little and joined a gang. I did some unexplained stuff, things you for sure wouldn't approve of. I didn't necessarily get out of it since I can't get out of it. I've been cleaning money, making it useable everywhere. My money was being held in a bodega which was raided not to long ago. I knew who did it, so I went and handled things my way." I began spilling all the tea.
I didn't bother to stop and catch a breath. "Unfortunately, the way that I handled the situation caused my club to be burned down. I know who did it and I'm going to handle it." I concluded, finally taking a breath.
Looking at my dad, I expected his expression to change but it stayed the same. He stared at me like how he did when I was younger and I was in trouble. He rarely said anything, but his looks always did it for me. The look he was giving me now made me feel like a kid again. I hated that feeling.
"I already knew that." He finally spoke, catching me off guard. I sat up straight, giving him a confused look. He drunk his beer like he didn't just say anything.
"Excuse me, but you knew?" I asked for confirmation and he nodded. "Knew what?"
"Everything." He waved his beer around. "The whole being in the streets."
I slowly nodded my head, confused as to how he knew. It wasn't like I made it obvious that I was doing something. I said I had after school activities which wasn't a lie in order to do what I had to do. I even said I was chilling with Lamar which also was true.
"But, how?" I asked curiously. "I mean I hid it pretty well, so how did you know?"
He shrugged, putting his beer down. "I'm your father, I just knew. But, if you want a serious answer then I followed you around for a while. It really started after I caught you sneaking out the house to meet up with Lexus. I figured if you were doing that then you must've was doing other stuff as well. I saw you on the corner with ya boy Lamar and some other kids a couple times. I could've mentioned it to you a few times, but I decided not to."
