Now that Bonnie's birthday has passed, Ash and Dawn return to Alola.
"We're back... Again..."
"Yeah!"
Ash and Dawn head straight to the next gym, which is located in Konikoni City.
"We're finally in Konikoni City!"
"Yeah, time for your next gym battle!"
"Right!"
"Marowak, isn't that Ash?"
Ash and Dawn look over to see a familiar trainer who challenged the Lumiose Gym shortly after the Kalos Crisis.
"Alvin! It's been so long!"
"Yeah, it's great to see you two!"
"You too! So are you here to challenge the gyms too?"
"Yeah! I was just about to challenge the Konikoni Gym!" Alvin reveals
"Me too!"
"I wanna watch your battle first!"
"Alright, so let's go!"
The three trainers, along with Espeon, Umbreon, Pikachu, and Marowak walk to the gym.
In front of the gym...
Ash gets a caller
"Hello, Ash here."
"Oh, hey Professor!"
"Why not?"
"Oh, I see."
"Alright, I'll tell Dawn right now."
"Bye."
Ash hangs up.
"Ash, who was that?"
"Professor Kukui."
"What did he want?"
"He said the Kahunas found some strong trainers to be the Elite 4 instead of them."
"That way it won't get in the way of their duties of Kahunas?"
"Yeah. Also, the Professor said he would act as Champion until someone beats him in an official league match."
"That makes sense. The league's founder acts as the Champion until an official champion is crowned."
"I'm still here, you know."
"Sorry, Alvin."
"Anyways, what are you two doing traveling together?"
"We forgot to tell you! We're dating now!" Dawn says, holding Ash's hand.
"That's cool!"
"Now that everything is settled, let's get this gym battle started!"
"Ash..."
"Dawn, what's wrong? You look worried."
"If you lose a Pokemon, are you gonna use Umbreon?"
"Maybe. I've never used Umbreon in an official battle, though."
"So it would be your first official battle with Umbreon?" Alvin says.
"Yeah." They approach the entrance to the battlefield.
"Welcome to the Konikoni Gym."
"I'd like to have a gym battle." Ash says before the doors open.
The battlefield is covered in rocks.
"I think it's a rock-type gym."
"Correct!" Ash, Alvin, and Dawn heard a voice.
"Who are you?" Ash says as Dawn walks to the bleachers.
"I am the Konikoni Gym Leader. My name is..."
