CHAPTER 14 - THAWFEST

***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

HICCUP'S POV

"Happy Thawfest!" I called to all of the villagers in the Great Hall as I lifted my tankard filled with mulled wine to them.

They cheered and did the same, before we all drank.

Thawfest was here.

As were the Thawfest Games.

Too bad, I would not be a part of them this year as I am now chief and it's my job to watch over them.

I don't know whether I should be happy or annoyed with that.

But the others were taking part, even Eret who we spent the last week explaining why we celebrate Thawfest.

Yet still, he does not get it.

I had today to choose the games today, announced them tomorrow, giving everyone three days to train.

That should be enough time, right?

"Haha! Thawfest is back baby!" Snotlout cheered as he came over to us and I rolled my eyes. "Don't be upset Hiccup that you will never compete with the Snotman ever again!"

"I'll do my best to keep myself together..." I replied sarcastically, confusing him as Astrid came over to me, putting her arm around me.

"Snotlout, let's not forget who won the last two Thawfest games..." She looked at me and kissed my nose.

"Yeah...so?"

"I'll be giving you all a chance this year...because I won't be taking part..." I said and he shook his head as the others came over to us.

"Well this proves it!" Tuffnut said and we all looked at him.

"What?" I asked.

"We're getting old!"

We all laughed as we clinked our tankards together before joining the villagers.

This was going to be the best Thawfest ever.

***

I groaned out loud and scrunched up another piece of paper, tossing it to the side, before slamming my head against the table.

Who knew choosing the games would be so...frustrating?

I stood up and headed downstairs, dragging myself to the jug of yak's milk as the front door opened. "Hey!" Astrid said as she came over to me, placing a bag on a chair. "You missed training?" She wrapped her arms around me and I nodded, leaning on the counter.

"I know...I'm planning for the Thawfest games. I didn't know it would be this hard to just choose six games..." I sighed as I placed the empty tankard back on the counter.

"Maybe...I can...inspire you?" She whispered into my ear and I smiled, as she took my hand and led me upstairs.

***

"So...are you inspired yet?" Astrid asked as she lay back in bed and I laughed as I turned to the right and kissed her, holding her face.

"Nope...but that was fun..." We rubbed our noses together as she giggled, before I claimed her lips again. She moaned and I pulled away. "I seriously have to get the games sorted..." I added and she rolled her eyes.
