Chapter Forty-Two: Decision

"I don't know what's more surprising. That you asked Grell for help, or the amount of red in that pile of clothes."

Will smiled slightly and left my tent and I clipped it shut. I put on the white suit shirt and my own brown skirt. I left on the white tights from my performance clothes and put on the red vest and silver jewelry fell as I picked it up. Leave it to Grell to remember accessories. I laughed softly and after buttoning the vest, took note of the silver chain with a silver cross instead of a pocket watch hanging off the end. Another silver chain hung across my hip and as I pulled on brown boots, I noticed a silver cross on each boot.

"Father, did you perhaps request some specific jewelry?" I asked.

"Possibly," he replied.

I laughed again and came out of the tent holding my scythes, "What do you think?"

"You look beautiful," Will said, but he seemed sad, "I've missed out on so much of your life and you're already so grown up

"You look beautiful," Will said, but he seemed sad, "I've missed out on so much of your life and you're already so grown up."

"But I'll be with you more often as a reaper," I said, "Let's go!"

Will smiled, "Can you keep up?"

"Probably," I said, grinning before taking off.

"Wonderful," Will said, coming up beside me, "But you obviously haven't practiced enough yet."

He was suddenly ahead of me. I tried to move faster, but ended up shooting higher in the air. I followed Will until we reached London again and he stopped.

"We'll be reaping the souls of a few police officers," Will said, "Remember, our job as reapers is to be a quiet spectator of life and only reap the souls of the dead."

"Remember that as a half-human, I will interfere if I see fit," I said.

Will sighed, "And here I was hoping that you'd finally be less paperwork."

I elbowed Will and he smiled and wrapped an arm around my back and hugged me against him.

"This way then," he said, leading me over near an alley, "Please promise me that you will at least be selective in who you save."

"I promise," I said. Will nodded and we stood on the roof and waited. I noticed a young girl walking alone and watched her. I would help her if she needed, but she found a police officer to ask for help. Police officer! I watched carefully, waiting to see what would happen. The girl walked off and I heard music playing. Where had it come from? I watched as the little girl walked down the alley and Joker suddenly appeared and did a magic trick for her; making flowers appear. I watched, ready to move in a second, as they brought her deeper into the alley. I followed along on the rooftop like a cat stalking their prey. The girl seemed to be lost in her own world as she followed Joker and the other performers as they did tricks. I was horrified though when the police officers ran down the alley and Dagger killed them and the girl laughed. They were messing with her mind somehow. I saw Doll doing acrobatic tricks, but noticed her heart didn't seem to be in it. When she finished, she stood off to the side and I saw her take out a small strand of her real hair from beneath the wig and play with it.
