"Lobelia again? Sounds exciting! I was getting my butt kicked in video games all day," she said sadly.
Akira laughed and placed more of the expensive sushi on her plate, "only at the very end. Eat some more, Hanabi!"
"Ah! Papa Mori! I seriously can't eat another bite!"
Takashi faltered at the name she accidentally said out loud last time, now being used so naturally.
"You said that five pieces ago," Satoshi laughed.
"Curse me and my gluttonous stomach," she cried. She picked at the various things on her plate, and sneakily dropped pieces on Takashi's plate whenever she had the chance in between conversations. Sorry, Takashi, please bear with me!
Takashi hid his wide grin behind his hand. Hanabi thought she was being sneaky, but she's dining with world class martial artists, she's not fooling anyone. But it was cute how her eyes would light up victoriously every time she 'got away with it'.
After dinner, the Haninozuka all left together. Satoshi and Akira also disappeared soon after, leaving Hanabi alone with Takashi.
She was suddenly very nervous. It was the first time she was alone with him since she realized her probable feelings. Takashi helped her clear the table while they talked.
She asked for details on today's events with Lobelia, and Takashi surprisingly gave it to her. This was the most she's ever heard him talk, and she listened intently.
"You mean Haruhi already had her first kiss and she didn't tell me?!" Hanabi whined.
He chuckled, "your father had a much different reaction."
She cringed, "I bet. Is that normal in the Host Club? I thought it was just...flirting, at most."
He denied it immediately, not wanting to give her the wrong impression of him. "That was an accident. A result of the twins mischief."
"Ah, I get it. That sounds like them," she laughed. With the table finally clear, she opened her mouth to announce her leave, but was stopped when Takashi held out his arm for her to take.
"Would you like to join me in the gardens?"
How could she say no to that? "I'd love to," she answered with a smile.
He led her outside and they walked slowly down the cobblestone paths, neither in a rush to end the night.
They were quiet, enjoying the sounds of the trickling waters and the various calls of the creatures in the pond. They finally settled on the bridge overlooking the water, as well as the entire garden.
"It's been so long since I've seen the garden at night," Hanabi spoke softly. "I forgot how beautiful it was."
Only the faintest of lights showed the way over the cobblestone, bathing the flowers in a soft glow. Fairy lights were sparsely placed around the pond, reflecting off the surface like the night sky.
"I come out here every night," Takashi admitted. "I find peace here."
Hanabi smiled up at Takashi, feeling happiness bubble up inside her at his words. "I'm really happy to hear that."
"I've never said it before, but thank you for this. I heard you worked even harder after hearing how much I come out here."
Hanabi blushed, "it's embarrassing when you say it like that. It's just...Satoshi talks about you a lot, ya know? I felt a kindred spirit in you, even before I met you. I poured my soul into this place, somehow believing that you would feel it...sorry, that sounds dumb," she laughed.
