in the time it took for minho to run from the grocery store back to the dorm, all sorts of scenarios about what was happening between chan and hyunjin in the living room had ran through his head. but nothing could have prepared him for the sight his eyes witnessed when he barged into the said living room.

chan was sprawled on the carpet, motionless. hyunjin was crouching next to him, his whole face in tears.

"hyung, hyung, wake up!" he was sobbing.

the first thing that minho registered was not the fact that chan had passed out on the floor, though, but that hyunjin was crying. he dropped the box of chocolates that he was carrying and rushed to hyunjin's side.

"what happened?" he asked, taking hyunjin's face in his hands. "did he try to do something to you?"

hyunjin looked at minho as if he was insane. "yeah, hyung. chan tried to assault me, and i knocked him out cold with one blow," he snapped sarcastically. "what nonsense are you imagining?"

minho concerned look turned into a glare. this is the gratitude he got for caring. if the members dared to accuse him of being mean to hyunjin one more time, he was going to slap them all one by one.

hyunjin, meanwhile, stood up and wiped the tears off his face ungracefully. "chan confessed to me, and i rejected him. i did it as gently as possible–"

minho snorted. hyunjin glared at him. "i did it as gently as possible," he insisted, "but he was still so upset. i tried to make him feel better, but he pulled a bottle of whisky out of his backpack and chugged it down and passed out! that's- that's not how you get over a rejection–"

"he's not getting over your rejection. he is celebrating it," minho retorted.

hyunjin let out an annoyed sigh. "can't you go five minutes without being mean to me?"

"so i am the mean one?" minho exclaimed, standing up abruptly. "what about you? weren't you mean from the moment i walked in?"

hyunjin rolled his eyes. "you asked if chan had assaulted me. this is nonsense! chan's a sweetheart, and you know it. you are just being mean on purpose."

"i'm not being mean on purpose," minho denied indignantly.

hyunjin cocked an eyebrow and crossed his arms on his chest. "oh really? what about what you said just now? that chan's celebrating my rejection?"

minho's eyes fell on the box that he had discarded on the floor upon entering and remembered that he came to apologize. he could not understand how he could both love hyunjin and find him so intolerably annoying that being together in a room with him was enough for minho to lose all desire to apologize. he took a couple of deep breaths and thought of jisung's and jeongin's messages. he had to do it.

"you're right," he said finally. "that was mean." he paused. "i've actually said a lot of mean things to you. you've also said a lot of mean things to me, but that's not important now. i must have hurt you. i- i'm sorry, hyunjin."

he picked up the box from the floor. "here. these are for you. accept them as part of my apology." he was looking everywhere but at hyunjin as he held the box in front of hyunjin.

hyunjin did not make a move to take the chocolates. when minho raised his head to see what was going on with the younger, he saw that hyunjin was staring at him in complete astonishment.

"what now?" minho grumbled. "how long are you going to stand like a statue? we have to help chan."

eyes still wide in surprise, hyunjin walked closer to minho and slapped his hand on his forhead. "hyung, do you have fever?"

hyunjin's touch sent an electric shock through minho's body. he should really stop reacting like this to his crush's mere presence, he thought. he swatted hyunjin's hand away.

"hyung, you apologized to me," hyunjin said, still in utter disbelief.

it was minho's turn to roll his eyes. "i did. stop overreacting, you dramatic brat."

shit, he called hyunjin a brat again. he hastened to add that he did not mean it, that it was just a habit, but hyunjin laughed. "so you do not dislike me?" he asked, smiling happily.

hyunjin was always beautiful like a flower, minho thought, but when he smiled genuinely, his beauty overshadowed the sun and all the stars. he found himself staring.

taking minho's silence as a confirmation, hyunjin smiled even more widely. "this is a huge relief. i was so sad i was even telling chan about it just before he–"

chan. it finally dawned on minho. "wait, you rejected chan?"

hyunjin nodded. "yes. i... like someone else," he added, blushing.

"is it changbin?" minho asked in spite of himself.

"no!" hyunjin grimaced.

minho smiled, relieved. "good. i don't want you to like..." anyone else, his brain supplied, but he hesitated. "forget it," he mumbled akwardly.

their eyes locked, and time stopped again. "i like..." hyunjin began, and minho's breath hitched. they were standing so close. if one of them leaned forward, they could kiss. say that you like me. say me. say it–

the door flew open, and seungmin stepped in. taking in the scene, from chan to minho, to hyunjin, he raised his hands defensively. "i don't want to know."

he grabbed a book from the shelf above the couch and left as quickly as he had entered, shutting the door after himself.

"let's help chan," hyunjin suggested the moment seungmin was gone. it was not the smoothest way to change the topic, but minho had no choice but to agree. it was his fault that he had expected hyunjin to confess. hyunjin's crush was probably someone else anyways. an apology was not enough to make someone fall for you, especialy if you've argued with them for ages.

minho gave him a stiff smile. "sure, let's do this."
