"seriously," y/n laughed at jungwoo, his back turned to her, resting on the side of his bed. the sound of swift clicks on a plastic controller filled the room. she moved from her position cuddling ruby to laying stomach down on the soft covers, crawling closer to him, before she slapped the back of his head, "you're so stupid."

"ha" jungwoo huffed, his tongue sticking out from his mouth in concentration. "try it yourself then." he swung around, stretching out his arm to hand her the controller. she smiled at his cute face. he looked so adorable sitting there, in a white tee and grey sweatpants, looking up at her with big eyes and a mischievous grin. at that moment she wanted nothing more than to sit down beside him and wrap him up in her arms. maybe give him a kiss or two.

no.

no, no, no.

y/n mentally slapped herself for once again drifting away into her imagination.

jungwoo was her best friend.

and it had to remain that way.

jungwoo noticed how her smile dropped as she looked at him, seemingly deep in thought. he was about to ask her what was up with her abrupt silence until the sound of her phone interrupted him. y/n pulled it out of her pocket, seeing it was a message from minho. "shit" she whispered to herself. she had lost track of time.

she put her hand on jungwoo's choco ball-like head, ruffling his hair. "sorry, no can do." she said in a sing-song voice, lifting herself from the bed. "i gotta go-"

"you're leaving?"

y/n's eyes widened in surprise at the sudden increase in volume of his voice and the accusatory character of it. she sighed, starting to pack up her things, "i told you i couldn't hang out for long. i had plans with minho and the others today, you know." jungwoo didn't answer. instead, he returned his attention to the video game in front of him, a pout on his lips. "you told me you didn't wanna come," she tried coaxing him into saying something, anything.

still, no answer.

y/n let out a breathless laugh, shaking her head at his childishness, "fine, whatever. i'll see you at school."

she went for the door, but before leaving she looked back at him. was he really not even going to say goodbye?

she felt her heart twist, tears burning at the back of her eyes.

he always did this.

ever since jungwoo got busy with promotions their friendship had gotten more complicated. before, they essentially had the same schedule and would always see each other between practice and at school. now, every time they hung out was when he was free, and y/n was usually the one to adjust her schedule. it was easier like that. and y/n understood that. she had no problem with it. all she cared about was being able to see him whenever she could. he was the most important person in her life. they had been through so much together, always by each other's side. that's why she pushed her feelings aside. she couldn't afford to lose him.

she loved him too much.

what he didn't seem to understand however was that, naturally, the less time they spent together, the more time she would spend with others. and at first, jungwoo seemed happy for her, gladly tagging along the times that he could. but lately, he had started to act cold every time minho was brought up.
