Church and Tucker are behind a rock with bullets hitting the canyon wall behind them.
Church: My god, doesn't that thing ever run out of bullets?
Tucker: You know, in hindsight, we should have brought the tank.
"No shit Sherlock." Niner scoffed.
Church: Hey, Tucker, what good is a tank gonna do us if nobody here knows how to drive it?
Tucker: Yeah, I can see how hiding behind a rock is a much better strategy.
Church: Well, yeah, but... oh man, I guess I gotta give that one to ya.
Lol. I love his sarcasm. I'm already pretty sarcastic but he taught me how to be truly sarcastic, much to my mother's annoyance. Rider 'said'.
"Don't you have a voice or something? It's really hard to tell if you're serious or not." York said.
That's what I've been working on. Just gimme one sec and- There was a loud beep before it cut off.
Instead of just the text on the screen, there was a voice that went along with it. "Testing testing, is this thing on?" A female, no older than 16.
"You sound awfully young to be kidnapping Freelancer's." York told her.
Niner cleared her throat and gave him a pointed look.
"Freelancer's and their pilot." York amended.
Niner just glared at him.
"Freelancer's and the best pilot in the whole UNSC and possibly of all time?" He tried.
She leaned back in her chair with a satisfied smile.
"Well boredom is a very powerful thing." Rider told him. "I think you guys can agree with that."
Well, she wasn't wrong.
Cut to Caboose hopping in the tank. As the canopy closes, the tank turns on.
Tank: Hello, and thank you for activating the M808V Main Battle Tank. You may call me Sheila.
"Wait a minute," York said, looking confused. "Isn't that FILSS?"
Carolina furrowed her brows, also looking a little confused. "It sounds like her..." She trailed off.
CT studied the screen. "Maybe it's a different part of the original program? Kind of like Google." She suggested.
"Negative, Ghost Rider." Rider said.
CT narrowed her eyes at the smaller screen. "Did you just quote Top Gun to me?"
"What's Top Gun?" Wash whispered to North.
"A really old movie. I think it came out in... 1998?" He quietly said hesitantly.
"1986." Rider corrected. "And yes I did."
"Who still watches movies from the 1900s?" Wash asked.
"Uh, excuse me. Some of the greatest movies in history were made in the 1900s; E.T, The Goonies, The Sandlots, The Princess Bride, Toy Story, Jaws, Star Wars. You get the point. Although I'm not the greatest fan of Star Wars."
A beat of silence.
"You shouldn't have said that." Florida said in a sing-songy voice.
"Yeah... I know." Rider sighed.
