Seeing Things?

I pretty much sleep for the rest of the day. I wake up feeling a little better the next morning. I decide I'm done sitting in this room. I sit up slowly and swing my legs over the side where I slowly stand up. I take it slow, and while I'm achy and a little dizzy, I can keep moving. I open the door and step into the hallway. This is very unfamiliar territory. I decide to go left, but that leads to a dead end. Nice.

I turn right instead, and see a room to the right of me. I knock lightly on the door, but there's no response, so I let my curiosity take over me and slowly turn the knob while gently pushing at the door. The room looks exactly like the one I was staying in, only cleaner. It's clear no one is staying here at the moment, considering the mattress is bare. I turn to exit the room and see Cheryl approaching me.

"Where is Evan?" I ask.

"I am sure you have a lot of questions. Please join me for a moment, Victoria." She responds. I am not in the mood.

"Tell me where he is." She stands in the doorway of the room I've been sleeping in and motions for me to enter. I obey and follow her in. "What happened while I was in that room with him? And how did I end up here?" I ask before she can even open her mouth.

"You are very overwhelmed, confused, and scared. That is natural. When you and Evan were in the room, you were each given a serum that knocks you out."

"Why? Why would you do that?" I ask.

"Please hold your questions until I am finished speaking, Victoria. After you were given the serum, you were transported here to rest and recover. You awoke a few hours later, but were given an extra day to rest, since it does make you very tired and fatigued. The reason you were given the serum was for your next challenge. You and your teammates will be in an escape-the-room style challenge in which you must collectively determine what happened while you, Victoria, were in that room."

"You just told me what happened though? I was not conscious."

"Not exactly. It is more complicated than that."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"I cannot provide more information. That is for you and your teammates to figure out in an hour."

"Where is Evan?"

"He returned to his room earlier today. You two are not permitted to speak until the completion of today's challenge." This is ridiculous, but I play along. I have no reason to trust Cheryl, but I don't see me questioning her working to my advantage. "Do you have any further questions?"

"Yeah. One more." All I can remember from being in that room was seeing Lex. I don't want to trust Cheryl so it wouldn't be wise of me to ask her about Lex, but my curiosity is stronger than my will to hate her. "When we were in that room, I thought I saw someone walk up behind Evan. It looked like Lex."

"A common side effect of the serum is seeing things that are not there." She responds. "I wouldn't worry about anything you saw in that room." I nod along. "If you have no further questions, you may return to your room until the challenge begins." I get up to leave with a pit in my stomach. She said seeing things that are not there is normal when you've taken the serum. But when I saw Alexis, I hadn't taken it yet.
