Chapter Nineteen: House Vanresh

                                    

                                          
Captain Marvel offered Hanvema's older sister, Bharasi, to come inside. There she would be able to explain why she had come to visit. Nebula and Gamora decided it was best they let this family matter be resolved only between Hanvema and Bharasi. But Eddie wasn't going to allow Hanvema to be alone with a potentially hostile family member. Hanvema and Eddie sat on the couch while Bharasi sat in an armchair across from them. The Elevdihian warrior locked eyes on Hanvema's belly and frowned. She spoke in Elevdihian to her sister. 
"Who is the father?" 
Hanvema glanced over to Eddie. "He is the father," Hanvema replied in their native tongue.
Bharasi's frown deepened. Not out of anger, but of confusion. "How? He is Terran."
"It's a long story. I can explain, but first you need to tell me why you are here."
"Uh, would it be okay for you guys to speak in English?" Eddie interjected. 
Bharasi stared at Eddie for a moment as if studying him, then she spoke, redirecting her gaze toward Hanvema.
"I have come to bring you home," Bharasi said, in English. 
Hanvema's eyes widened and she let out a small gasp. 
"Impossible," Hanvema replied. 
"The council has been overthrown. Their ways were archaic and inefficient. I am now the head of the new council and my first decree is to end your banishment." 
Bharasi was one of the best warriors on Elevdih. Hanvema had learned almost everything she knew about fighting through her older sister. But when Hanvema had been put to trial for dishonorable actions against the warrior code, Bharasi had done nothing. At the time, Hanvema had understood, because Bharasi was given the responsibility of the family name, Vanresh. 
Their father had died and therefore, Bharasi was given the burden of maintaining the family's honor. A responsibility that was highly sacred in Elevdihian culture. But as Hanvema spent longer time away from home and learned the ways of other cultures, she had grown bitter against Bharasi. Family should stick together no matter what and she felt betrayed that her older sister stood by and allowed her to be banished.
"Now explain how a Terran is the father of your child," Bharasi pressed.
"Um, yeah, my name is Eddie by the way. Nice to meet you," Eddie chimed in. 
Bharasi stared at Eddie once more, giving him a stoney look.
"Edd – ie," Bharasi said slowly.  "What sort of name is this?"
"I like his name and I love him," Hanvema stated firmly.
Hanvema slipped her arm through Eddie's arm and held him tight. This gesture made Eddie very happy. He was pleased she was standing up for him. 
"Very well. And what is your surname?"
"Brock," Eddie said. 
"Hanvema Brock....are you certain you, Edd – ie, would not like to take the surname Vanresh?"
*Eddie Vanresh, hahahaha* Venom said laughing. 
"Shut up, Venom," Eddie said.
Bharasi tilted her head to the side and furrowed her brow. "Who is he speaking to?"
"His symbiote, Venom," Hanvema said.
"He has a symbiote?" Bharasi asked with interest. "May I see it?"
Venom happily complied with the request and emerged from Eddie, enveloping him entirely.
Bharasi nodded with approval. "Accepting him into our culture will be much easier now." 
Hanvema sighed with relief as she badly wanted to visit home again and see her family. 
"Have you already married?" Bharasi asked.
Eddie and Hanvema shook their heads.
"Very well, then you will be wed on Elevdih. You can live wherever you wish, but I think it would be best for you to return and have your wedding to reinstate your reputation with your people. You after all, are a princess."
"What? You're a princess?" Eddie asked, turning to Hanvema. 
Hanvema looked embarrassed. "No it's not like what you think here on earth. She isn't translating it correctly. We are just part of a...how do I say in English...noble house."
"House Vanresh is the most powerful and most respected House. When Hanvema was banished it brought great shame on us. But we recovered by forcing the old council out and setting up a new dynasty. So, in a sense you are now a princess as I am head of the oligarchy back on Elevdih."
*Holy shit, will that make you a prince?* Venom said.
"I'm not like...gonna have a title right? I'm content with just being Eddie Brock from earth," Eddie said. 
"You will be part of House Vanresh, of course you will have a title. At the moment I do not know what it would be, but you will come to Elevdih and you will marry Hanvema there."
The matter was settled. Eddie would finally get to see Hanvema's home planet. And he was going to join a seemingly royal family. Prince Eddie has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
