Chapter Four: Battle Training.
Chikako stood with the rest of the class in the monitor room, where they huddled together in front of a big screen that would show the events in action.
“Now, let’s start the indoor person-to-person combat training with Team A and Team D!” All Might exclaimed.
Chikako felt her leg shake up and down, and she tried to slow her breathing. She was nervous, not only for the fact that Ochako was going first, she had full faith in her cousin to pull it off. The fear came with her partner and Bakugo that were the main problem. She had a hunch that the two would be more focused on fighting each other which would not only waste time but throw off the whole training. The screen showed five parts of the building, so as to get the experience at every angle. All Might urged them to pay attention and to think to take notes on their students’ strategies and abilities.
Chikako watched her cousin and Midoriya climb onto a window quietly and successfully. Ochako’s mouth moved, but no sound came out. This made her frown. Why would there not be audio? She wanted to hear what they were saying to fully assess, but she pushed that complaint out. She figured All Might wanted them to think about their classmates’ intentions without it being spelled out by their words.
The two walked around, checking every corner for any sign of their opponents. So far everywhere has been quiet, which spiked suspicion in Chikako. It was too quiet, especially for someone like the ash blond. She deduced they must be planning a sneak attack, and hoped for Ochako to keep her guard up.
Suddenly, Midoriya tensed and gazed up, and that was when Bakugo decided to make himself known. He charged, swinging his right arm straightly towards Midoriya who dodged in time. The boy blocked the attack from Ochako’s sight, but in the process half of his mask was damaged.
“A surprise attack from the start?”
“Bakugo, that’s cheating!” Red haired boy said. “A surprise attack isn’t manly at all.”
“A surprise attack is a strategy, too,” All Might said. “They’re in the middle of a real battle right now.”
Bakugo immediately started charging, his sole focus on Midoriya, basically ignoring Ochako which annoyed Chikako. If he was going to be fighting, pay attention to both of your opponents, not just one because you have deep hatred for him. Just as he was about to deliver a punch, Chikako was surprised to see Midoriya grab his arm, take a firm stance, and flip him over his shoulder.
Chikako’s eyes widened, she didn’t think Midoriya predicted his moves and let alone had the strength to flip him over like that. The green haired boy seemed to be saying something to him, which only made Bakugo shake in anger and surprise, just as Midoriya was shaking in fear, yet still bravely stood his ground.
As for Iida, he looked understandably confused, seeming to be speaking to Bakugo. He stomped around agitated, while the main boys were still staring at each other with readied poses.
“What was Bakugo saying?” Red haired kid asked. Chikako really needed to learn their names, she was getting tired of referring to them by hair colour. “Can’t tell with just cameras in a fixed position and no sound.” He said, speaking out loud to Chikako’s inner complaint.
“He’s talking to his partner over the small wireless earphone,” All Might said, pointing to the small earpiece in his ear. Chikako squinted and saw the same earpiece in Bakugo and Ochako’s ears. “You can bring that, plus the building plan, and this capture tape,” he continued, showing the small object to the rest of the class. “Once you wrap this around your opponent, it shows that you’ve captured them.”
