While walking around the monastery, You find Derric and Niko engaged in an intense conversation. You approach them slowly, not wishing to startle them.
Derric: You're sure they're on the move?
Niko: They have to be. They've been staying in one place for too long, and with the chaotic state of the Empire right now...
You approach the two and ask them what is going on.
Derric: Professor... Well...
Niko: We heard rumors that our parents are on the move. They're going to try and expand their reach of territory by taking advantage of the war's chaos.
Your eyes go wide in surprise.
Derric: But Niko and I were thinking about going out there to stop them.
Niko: We have to. They've caused so many problems for everyone, and if nobody else is going to make sure they knock it off, then we'll just have to. There's nothing wrong with that.
Derric: Yeah... What he said. There's a lot going on right now, and we don't want to pull the full attention of the army away for this, but...
Niko: I think it's going to be the perfect chance for us to take care of them once and for all. They've done more than enough, and this is going to be a great time for us to push them out of the fighting forever.
You ask if Niko wants to kill them.
Niko: We don't have much of a choice if we want to keep pushing on with the war's onward charge. I accepted that a while ago. It's fine. They made their decision, and we're just going to follow up on it.
Derric: This is something we have to deal with. They're our parents, and... We need to get them out of the picture.
You say that You would like to join them.
Niko: I suppose it would be best if we brought at least a few people along for backup. I don't think this is going to end as well as we would like.
Derric: You're probably right... We're going to leave in less than two hours. We'll make our preparations if you do the same, Professor.
You nod and go off to get ready for the battle at hand.
A few hours later, You find yourself deep in Empire territory. You glance around, finding it to be much less put-together than You remember from your time here prior to the Battle of Garreg Mach.
Niko: Yeah... A lot has changed about this place since you were last here. That's the simple way of putting it.
Derric: The war is driving everyone into the ground... We're doing what we can to keep fighting though. It's the least everyone deserves after all they've suffered through.
Niko: And right now, defeating our parents is the best way of going about this.
You nod your understanding before You continue to walk onward. Derric stops You a few moments later.
Derric: Hang on... Look over there.
You follow Derric's finger as he points to the horizon where the outline of a group of soldiers can be seen. You ask if that is their parents.
Niko: I can't think of anyone else it would be... They're acting much faster than I thought.
Derric: I hoped we would be able to catch them before they left our home territory...
