Obi-Wan watches Padmé absently rub a hand over her stomach, a smile twitching to life on her lips. She gasps in excitement, fingers gently patting her baby bump.

'Obi-Wan,' she giggles. 'The baby! It's kicking.'

His brow furrows. 'Is it uncomfortable?'

She trots over to the balcony, leaning her forearms on it and staring dreamily out into the golden streaked Coruscant sky. It's currently sunset, the sun barely peeking above the elegant buildings, silhouetting the air roads. Smiling, she leans her head on her hand and rubs her bump again, the gentle light bathing her contented features.

'Not at all,' she replies softly. 'Not when I think about the baby.' She grins. 'I can't wait to meet the little one.'

Obi-Wan hums in response, deep in thought. He finds himself wondering what it would feel like if he had his own child, what it would be like to cradle a small, bright eyed baby - his baby - in his arms and know that that baby is his. He sighs quietly. There's no doubt in his mind that it would be the most wonderful feeling ever, to sire his own child and watch them grow up, to guide them and love them. He wishes for the most simple yet impossible things sometimes; a wife to come home to, a woman who would greet him with the same delighted smile that Padmé greets Anakin, a woman which he could take in his arms and spin around and...

'What are you thinking about, Obi-Wan?'

Padmé's voice brings him from his thoughts, and he glances up shrugs a little, rubbing his chin. 'Nothing really. Nothing possible.'

And yet, here he stands, years later, the sands of Tatooine under his feet as he watches a young Luke pretend to be a pilot, mind focused on nothing but the woman he's going to return home to. He met you in a cantina and was immediately dazzled by your sure smile and kindness - two things which are a rare find on such a tough Outer Rim planet like Tatooine.

Tucking his binoculars into his satchel, he brushes some sand off his robes as he straightens, ready to return home. You're in your third and last trimester, and although you keep a straight face, sometimes he can feel your discomfort through the Force. Of course, the two of you are delighted that you're going to have your own child, but right now he can tell that your flagging, having to sustain not just one life, but two.

'My love,' he calls as he steps into your house. 'My love, I'm back!'

He hears a soft groan and pokes his head into the main room, seeing you slumped on an armchair, eyes half closed. You smile tiredly at him as he leans down and kisses your forehead, reaching out and squeezing his hand.

'Obi,' you mumble. 'I feel huge and yet we still have another four weeks to wait.'

He chuckles as you pout at him. 'It's going to be okay, love. It's going to be over sooner than you think, and we're going to have a sweet little baby.'

Your smile returns as he leans down to press a gentle kiss to your bump. 'I love you, Obi.'

He grabs the moisturiser on the table by your chair. 'I love you too. Shirt up.'

You roll your eyes at him and tug the hem of your shirt up, exposing your bump. He smiles up at you, kissing your belly again before taking the bottle of moisturiser and rubbing some on to your skin. You sigh in relief, touching the side of your belly.

'He's kicking again, Obi. He's happy that his father's home.'

Obi-Wan smiles at your sweet voice, watching your eyes drift close in content as he rubs in the moisturiser to prevent any stretch marks. As he does, he dreams of what your baby is going to be like. He vows that he'll love this child forever, your little bundle of joy which will fulfill everything he wished for back on Coruscant when he talked with Padmé, Force bless her. A little huff of breath breaks the quiet, and he glances up to see that you've drifted off.

Standing, he pulls your shirt down and, not wanting to wake you and move you to the bed, retrieves a blanket from one of the cupboards, draping it over your sleeping form and tucking it under your chin. You hum contentedly in your sleep, and he brushes your hair from your face to press a kiss to your forehead.

Smiling, he gazes fondly at you, snuggled up in the armchair, hands resting on your baby bump. You're everything that he dreamed of and more, and he can't help but tremble with the flood of fondness that engulfs him. You're so beautiful, even when you're whining about the pain in your lower back or wincing as you haul yourself to your feet.

He can't wait to meet the baby you're expecting.
