Mary and Spot's Hideout, Emerald Isle, NC, 10:15 pm
POV: Narrator
As Jake, Davey, Sarah, and Les were making their way to the escape upstairs, Davey began to collapse because of the toxic fumes. "No, no Dave! You can't stop here, we're almost there!" Jake said, trying to encourage him to push through it. "I'm sorry Jake...it ends here..." Davey coughed out before falling to the floor. Jake immediately went to his side, himself slowly collapsing because of the heavy fumes as well. It hadn't affected Sarah or Les for some reason. "Oh God, no!" She said. "Les, we have to get out of here, now!" Sarah said. "Why? I want to save Jakey!" Les responded. "Do you know why they came here in the first place? To save us! So that means we have to save ourselves while we can! This is what they would have wanted, now let's go!" Sarah instructed, bringing Les along with him upstairs. They had barely made it out.
Sarah and Les ran through the open kitchen and Living Room discovering the five bodies, one of them being Spot's. She gasped. "Les, whatever you do, don't look down. Keep looking straight!" She said. They went to the front door, it was locked shut by a series of strange locks. Sarah tried fiddling with them for a second, while Les got a glimpse of the bodies. "Oh forget it!" She said. She dragged Les over to the open window she quickly spotted. "They must've come in through here." she thought out loud. She then jumped out of the window so she could catch Les. "This jump looks scary!" Les said. It was a 7 foot jump. "Les, listen, we have been through a lot worse things. I promise I will never let you fall. Now jump for me, please!" Sarah said desperately. Les then jumped--For Jake and for Davey.
"I'm so proud of you!" Sarah said, kissing Les. Then, they found all of the Newsies outside of the house, along with multiple emergency units and the SWAT Team. "Holy fuck..." she thought to herself. She then ran with Les over to Jack's arms, who was also running in their direction. "You have to get Davey and Jake, they're in the basement, and it's a meth lab down there! There's not much time left to save them!" Sarah said crying. "Okay, calm down, and breathe. We's won't let them die in there." Jack said. "Hey, someone get me some gas masks please!" he ordered. "Alright, I need two other brave volunteers to go in there with me to save our two beloved family members," Jack said. "I'll go in." Skittery immediately said, stepping forward. "Good man," he said, patting him on the back. "One more guy, please," Jack ordered. Nobody stepped up. "Oh COME ON, THESE ARE OUR OWN KIND! WE'S A FAMILY HERE!" he yelled. Then, he pulled up Racetrack to go in with them. "A'right! We's goin' in now, if we's don't make it out, we's all love ya!" Jack said. They put on their gas masks and proceeded to enter the trailer house through the front door which was now busted open, with permission of the Law Enforcement and prior consent. Racetrack immediately found Spot, and he knew he couldn't leave his friend there dying, even after what he did. "I have to get Spot." Racetrack said. "A'right fine. He was probably drugged anyways." Jack said. He and Skittery proceeded to enter down through the basement to save Jake and Davey.
10:30 pm
Jack and Skittery, heroically walked out the front door, carrying Jake and Davey on their backs, who made the ultimate sacrifice to save Sarah and Les. Their love is what made this outcome possible. Racetrack was already outside with the others after he had retrieved Spot. Everyone clapped, not for Jack and Skittery, but for Jake and Davey, for what they did. It was an eventful day in the nearly 200-year existence of the Newsies. Afterward, Jake, Davey, and Spot were all taken into ambulances and given the proper treatments for their injuries. It was time for everyone to go home, once and for all.
