Sam's heart was pounding. He pushed open his hotel room door and stepped inside, closing it behind him. Was he dreaming, or did he actually have a really cute neighbour on his two week holiday? This was starting to feel somewhat like paradise, and Sam was hoping that he could get to know James better. He was determined to. He began unpacking some of his things, putting the clothes in drawers and the wardrobe.
There was an itinerary and map in a leaflet on the dresser by the door, and Sam picked it up in favour of finding out about all the fun activities. He flicked through, skimming over the pages. A few things caught his interest, but he'd probably aim to do them tomorrow. He just wanted to relax for the rest of today. Maybe he'd go down the to beach.
He sighed, making his way over to the bed and sitting down. He just needed a minute to let go of his stress and remind himself that he was on holiday. He lay down and closed his eyes, and after a few minutes, he had dropped off to sleep. The sun was beginning to get lower in the sky when he woke up, and he wondered how long he'd been asleep for. But ah well, it didn't matter, he was on holiday.
He got up and stretched before grabbing his door key and putting on his shoes. He wasn't gonna miss the sun on the beach on his first day of holiday.
He opened the door and stepped out, immediately bumping into someone. He stumbled back, grabbing the doorframe to steady himself.
"I'm so sorry!" he said. Before he could say anything he else, he realised it was James he had run into. His eyes widened. James gave him a smile, and Sam swore his knees felt weak.
"It's alright, really. Are you okay?" Said James, turning to face him. Sam nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Are you?" replied Sam, choking on his words a little. James gave him another charming smile.
"Yeah, I'm alright, thank you." he said. Sam shut the door and stepped away from it. His gaze darted around for fear of meeting James' eyes.
"I was planning on heading to the beach," said Sam, taken aback by how forward he was being. "Would you like to join me?"
Sam was almost certain that he'd say no. He knew that was silly, and just the voice in his head, but his heart was beating so fast and his hands were getting sweaty. James' smile widened.
"I'd love to." he said. Sam met his gaze, and found himself staring into those blue eyes.
"Oh," said Sam, his cheeks flushing hotly. "I didn't expect you to, um- to actually say yes."
James gave a laugh.
"I find you interesting - intriguing, maybe. I want to get to know you." He said, and Sam's eyes widened at his forward response. He must've looked extremely bewildered because James laughed again. Sam took a moment before laughing too, shaking his head at how foolish he was being.
"I'm sorry- I'm a mess." said Sam, and James grinned at him, turning and beginning to walk down the corridor.
"That makes two of us then." He said, and Sam quickly ran to follow him.
a week later
Sam sprinted to the stairs, hearing a protest from James behind him. They raced all the way down, bursting out the front doors into the sun. James was panting and spluttering by the time they were out of the hotel and on their way to the beach. Sam chuckled at his exhausted state.
