The next day didn't really get better for any of them. Apollo and Ares continued to clash over that stupid chariot, although Ash was getting some pretty good laughs out of all the curses they kept calling down on each other. Ares kids were spitting mad rhymes all over. She spent most of the day hanging out with Silena, just being there for her, and forgot to make it back in time to help clean before cabin inspection. Percy alone probably would have gone easy on them but Annabeth was ruthless, so Hermes received a two that week. Definitely getting kitchen duty.

The son of Poseidon and daughter of Athena were splitting work by doing inspections and going over reports together (Ash had a stack of her own splayed out on her bunk). When they got to Cabin 6, Annabeth realized that she too had forgotten to clean, but unlike Ash had been the only one.

"Vlacas," she cursed herself, going over to right things.

Her second-in-command, Malcolm, suppressed a smile. "Yeah, um... we cleaned everything else. Didn't know if it was safe to move your notes." Smart boy. This time his grin was noticeable. "We'll wait outside while you finish inspection."

Unrelated side note, Malcolm happened to be on team Percabeth, mostly because he kinda sorta maybe had a crush on Ash. The boy ushered his cabinmates out the door while Annabeth cleaned up her bunk. Percy shuffled uneasily but continued to go through reports, trying not to think about the fact that it was technically against the rules for two campers to be alone in a cabin.  And the wink Malcolm had given him as he was walking out. Sure, Ash had a crashed a couple times, but for some reason that felt different, and usually Tyson was there anyways.

They made some awkward small talk here and there, about summer, the contents of the reports, family. He made note of a particular letter to give to Ash from one Gleeson Hedge, whose name struck him as familiar, concerning Grover. None of them had heard from their satyr friend in weeks and were all starting to get worried.

As they finally moved on, walking outside past the tetherball courts, the conversation turned towards Percy's dreams about Rachel. They began to argue about whether or not her visions about an attack on Olympus were true.

"Percy," Annabeth said, voice tight. "Rachel is just a mortal."

"So what? Those other Titans–they said Olympus would be destroyed in a matter of days. They said they had plenty of other challenges. And those drawings, that picture of Luke as a kid–"

"We'll just have to be ready."

"How?" Percy asked desperately. "Look at our camp. We can't even stop fighting each other. And I'm supposed to get my stupid soul reaped."

The blonde threw down the scroll she was carrying, voice full of anger and hurt. "I knew we shouldn't have shown you the prophecy. All it did was scare you. You run away from things when you're scared."

Percy stared at her, utterly stunned. "Me? Run away?"

Annabeth got right up in his face. "Yes, you. You're a coward, Percy Jackson, who runs off to remote islands or some mortal's house or behind other people when things get too real!"

They were nose to nose. Percy's eyes were wide and Annabeth's were red. He was completely shocked, not knowing she felt this way in the slightest. His heart was sinking, guilt beginning to pool in his stomach. Annabeth had always been more territorial than Ash, and was especially protective over the daughter of Thanatos as her oldest friend, but Ash didn't have anything to do with this anyways.... Right?

"If you don't like our chances," she continued, "maybe you should go on that vacation with Rachel."

"Annabeth–"
