I we are being transported to a hospital in the States. Every second I see is less and less chance of saving Charles' legs.

Charles is taken to the operating room.

Operation proved difficult. They took the bullet out of my shoulder, bandage it up, and I rush to the operating room door.

Two guys who look like goons come up. These are some CIA guys who were transporting us from Cuba.

- "Agent Cassidy, we have orders to take you to the CIA office for a report."

- "Fuck you." -I calmly reply. I'm not going anywhere with them.

One of them pulls me to the reception, where there is a phone and dials a number. Wow, they're going to let me send to fuck the very top of the CIA?

McCone answers the phone.

- "Cassidy, get over to CIA headquarters right away. McTaggert has amnesia. We need you for the report. Please."

I really shouldn't have said that last part. I'm getting anger.

- "Oh, so now it's "please." Before you almost killed me with rockets, your McTaggert hurt me and Professor Xavier, who has spinal surgery now, and now this stupid "please"?."

I lost my temper for the first time. McCone tries to says something.

- "Well, actually, we're the ones who moved you to the hospital."

- "Yeah, and before that, you tried to kill us. I can see the whole CIA has a brain problem."

- "Okay, you know what, Cassidy?" -McCone gets angry. - "You're a CIA employee."

- "Then I don't work for the CIA anymore!" - I finally explode and start shouting. - "I don't owe you anything anymore by order, so take your goons and get the hell away from me!"

I hang up the phone. The goons stare at me in amazement. They leave, and I go back to doors of the operating room.

I could have left the CIA earlier. But I was patient, because I knew that they would not let me go so easily. I have been patient until now.

I think about all this for a couple of seconds, and then my mind goes back to Charles.

A doctor comes out of the operating room. I run up to him.

- "How is he? Tell me, how is he?" -I ask.

- "He'll live, but it will take a long rehabilitation course." -The doctor answers.

Charles will live, that's all that matters.

The next morning I rush to Charles' room. I see him, bruised from Eric's fists, with a bandage on his back, but alive.

- "Charles!" -I walk up to him. - "How are you feeling?"

He immediately turns sullen.

- "I suppose the doctor already told you about my problem?" -He asks.

- "No. What problem?" -I surprise.

- "Would you excuse us for a moment?" -He asks the doctor.

When he comes out, Charles pulls himself together and says

-"The doctor says the tissue the bullet damaged is unlikely to repair. That means..." -he paused for a moment, but I guess it myself. - "That I won't be able to walk."

I freeze for literally a second. I know I'm supposed to express my condolences but I say the first thing that came into my head.

- "I'm not leaving you."
