You and Hange travelled far until finally reaching the verge of the forrest, seeing the dark pond in the far distance - no one else was there. You both came to a halt at the water, cleaning your hands and arms off his blood as you kept glancing back at him from over your shoulder.
You slowly stepped closer to Levi, kneeling beside his wounded and weakened body as you pressed your fingertips to his cheek, a cold and almost unwelcoming feeling greeting you back.
His chest deeply moved up and down with each breath: you felt a strange relief with each time his lips parted to inhale.
You hated seeing him like this.. more than anything. Yet still, you stayed thankful as the grief stayed lingering in your veins from when you thought you had lost him for good.
Your heart constantly ached, your eyes struggling back tears whenever you looked at him. His face was tightly bandaged, covering his left eye and skin. His silver eyes watched you, following your every movement and expression.
He would be blind.. in at least one eye. You could tell that already from the deep bruising and blood that was covering his eyelid.
Your fingers ran over his lips and jaw, tracing each outline of the structures in his face: you were able to see your face in the reflection of his cloudy eyes.
You watched his chin move from beneath his bandages as if he was about to say something to you, however, quickly closed his mouth again with dejected eyes.
"Oh, Levi.." You whispered quietly under your breath, Hange glancing at you from over their shoulder with parted lips, "I'm-.. I'm so sorry."
You apologised for your brother for doing this to him; you apologised for not getting there soon enough.
Despite the open wounds that covered his face.. he still seemed perfect to you. He was still as beautiful as the moment you'd first seen him in the ship ten months ago.
"Y/N," Hange called out, a frown on their lips that seemed permanent, "How are you holding up? If you wish to leave, you can. The others should be in the barracks waiting for you."
You shook your head, "I don't want to leave his side."
You finally looked into the distance, your eyes immediately drawn to a titan running across the plain and into your direction. Your heart slowly sank solemnly at the sight of your best friend.. her eyes glared straight ahead as your heart began to race.
Hange's eyes still stayed glued to you as they stepped closer, wrapping their fingers around your cheeks as you tried to keep a confident front, however, failed miserably as you slowly began to hyperventilate at the sight of her.
Did she know that you were alive?
Did she hate you?
You deserved to be hated by her, you thought. You didn't deserve her forgiveness for leaving her: for not putting up more of a fight.
Their face leaned closer to yours, "Y/N.. you should go. As much as I'd love to have you by my side, and by Levi's, I don't want you to get overwhelmed. Your mental state is still important to me." They paused, "Take my horse. I've got everything covered here. If anything changes with Levi, you'll be the first to know."
You turned your back, placing your fingertips to his cheek. His hand cupped around yours as you smiled at the warmth of his fingertips.
You pressed your fingers to your lips, then pressing them to his to imitate a kiss between you both as Hange's expression delicately softened at the sight of you.
"I love you." You whispered to him, before turning yourself to Hange with a smile. You pulled your body up onto your horse, seeing as Pieck slowed down, her titans eyes wide and glued onto you as you slowly began to ride away, too scared to reunite with your best friend since you were children.
Levi's lips finally parted as you grew further away.
His fists balled, "I.. love you, too, Y/N."
