"You all have two hours until the sixth class trial! Get your asses in gear!" Monokuma laughed. "You'll have to expose the mastermind! Unless, of course, someone dies."
Shock filled the atmosphere of the room. Shuichi could touch the fear in everyone's minds. Fear swirled behind everyone's eyes as they shared gazes. Monokuma had disappeared, along with all hope that they can win the game. Maybe Shuichi would win? How would it be possible going solo against four others? "I'm going to my room..." As he took a step away from the group, someone grabbed his wrist to stop him.
"Why?" Kaito asked, voice wavering.
"I... just want to find a notepad or something so I can write down evidence... Maybe there are clues in the class trials?" Shuichi wondered out loud.
"I'll come with you then," Kaito grinned.
"N-No..." Shuichi mumbled, staring at the ground.
"Why, what's wrong?" Kaito whispered. The two walked away from the group to talk more privately. Shuichi felt horrible for lying to his boyfriend but it had to be done. He had to protect him. "Babe, please tell me what's going on."
Shuichi's eyes glistened with tears not yet shed. "I'm scared..."
"I know, we all are Shu," Kaito whispered, pulling him into a tight hug. Shuichi felt safe, he felt loved. He didn't deserve it. Letting a few tears fall from his eyes, Shuichi wrapped his arms around Kaito and squeezed. "W-Woah, getting strong there! Maybe our nightly workouts are paying off?" The astronaut joked.
"Heh, thanks Kai," Shuichi chuckled. He wiped away his tears as the hug broke. Kaito cradled Shuichi's face, the two staring into each other's eyes. Shuichi saw worry, terror and adoration in the other's purple eyes. Who knows what Kaito was seeing in his. The gap between them began the close, the two closing their eyes as their lips connected.
Shuichi loved it, he loved the care and protection of another whom he loved, especially when they loved him. It pained it beyond belief. He didn't deserve it, not when he was responsible for their friends dropping like flies in brutal ways. Everything felt so right but he knew it shouldn't last. Kaito would be looking at him with disgust in a few hours.
They broke apart from the soft kiss, smiling at each other. Fake, that's all it was. Shuichi knew it was fake. Kaito didn't love him, it was all a script. Rantaro, Kokichi and Kaito, did any of them truly love him? Did he truly love them? Even his friendship with Himiko, how much of that was real? "Stay safe babe. If you need me then come and find me, alright? I'll come to check on you soon," Kaito grinned.
"You... You don't have to do that," Shuichi sniffed.
"Of course I do. I know sometimes people just need time to themselves, it's fine. Don't... get hurt, okay?" Kaito hesitated, his energetic demeanour faltering.
"I won't, no one's going to murder me," Shuichi smiled. It was true, no one would - or could - murder him. As the mastermind, it was almost like he had immunity. "After all, I have our training to back me up," he joked. Feeling the mood lighten, Shuichi felt accomplished for a brief moment. They shared one last, quick kiss before walking separate ways.
He walked alone to the dorms. Alone. It hurt to know that's all he'd ever be but this is his fault. Nothing was stopping him from killing himself to avoid being the mastermind, but he didn't. Shuichi wanted to continue. Wiping away the streaks of tears dripping down his cheeks, Shuichi reached his dorm and rushed inside, slamming the door behind him and locking it.
Whipping out his Monopad, Shuichi dried his face and took multiple deep breaths before calling Asano. "Howdie, what can I do ya for, Mr Mastermind?"
"How the fuck am I supposed to do this?!" Shuichi cried.
