{ thirty-two } meet again

Start from the beginning

"Are you Eren Yeager?" As soon as the man spoke his name, Eren used his blade to dig into Bertolt's neck. Blood spilled from the traitor's jugular as Eren forced his head backwards with his left hand. If they were going to try and take him now, Eren would kill one of their allies. "You look nothing like your father."

"What?" Eren's strong exterior wavered at the man's statement, and he readjusted his grip on his sword before his shaking hands could give him away.

"Believe me, I know what you're going through," The expression the man wore was nothing, if not dripping with sincerity. To anyone else, his sympathetic tone of voice could be something they learned to trust. Eren knew better. The destruction around him knew better. Nothing about their enemies were kind, and he would be the last one to fall into that kind of trap. "We're both victims of your father. You've been brainwashed by him."

"My dad?" Eren tried to remember the last time he knew what to believe when it came to his father. When he was much younger, he thought the basement was full of dangerous tools only doctors could use. Now, he knows it's the truth to what's going on beyond the walls. And somehow, the enemy is claiming to know his father personally. But, Eren couldn't say he didn't somewhat believe it.

"You're fucking kidding me!" The blonde man grit his teeth as he looked up to the wall's peak, but Eren kept his eyes focused on him. "Bertolt, I'm sorry but, I think it's the end for you," Eren kept a firm hold on the blade pointed at his enemy's neck as the quadruped Titan turned away from him. "Someday, I'm coming back to rescue you!"

What? Eren could barely form a coherent thought, let alone create an eloquent question at the man as he ran away with the four legged Titan carrying him on his back. For once he just wanted everything to stop so he could get his bearings, even though he knew that was far from possible.

"Captain!" He let himself feel just the slightest bit of relief as Humanity's Strongest landed in front of him. Even with his bloodied appearance, knowing someone as strong as him was still alive and fighting brought Eren a smidge of comfort in their suffocating position.

"That was the last of my gas!" However, as the man turned to him, panting and crazed with blood trickling down his forehead, Eren couldn't identify the person he was seeing as the stoic Captain Levi. "I'll chase him! Hand over your gas and blades!" He was almost slurring his words with how rushed he was, demanding anything Eren had as though he needed it to survive.

"Right!" But Eren's muscle memory left him following the order like he was trained in the Cadet Corps. He only stopped moving when a strangled cough came from behind him.

      Armin!

Armin was alive. He was choking on every breath, exhausting his already singed lungs, but he was breathing.

"Armin! He's breathing again!" Forgetting what it was he was doing, Eren scrambled to listen to any other noise his best friend could make to prove he wasn't hearing things. As a puff of air escaped Armin's broken jaw, Eren could only let out a repressed laugh as tears escaped his eyes. "Keep it up! Come on!"

Sitting up, Eren spun back to face his superior. He was thankful now more than ever that the man who carried the Titan injection landed on the same roof as them. Mikasa had dashed to their location on her gear, and stood behind their captain clutching her head as if she had been hit with a phantom migraine.
