Orientation- Calli and Kiara

                                    

                                          
"Huh? What do you mean see you-"
Before Kiara could finish, Calli pulled her scythe with all her strength expecting the Phoenix's head to fall like an apple from a tree. But the blade couldn't cut through. In fact, it hardly scratched the surface of the skin; though the force managed to disrupt the flow of air in the windpipe.
"*cough* Oww *cough* -I mean, what the hell? *cough* You did this for?"
Kiara clasped her neck to hold the breath in and stepped back from her assaulter. She was also making sure whether her head was still with her body or not. Because even for an immortal being like her, the scythe seemed intimidating enough to actually cut her. Feeling no bruises or scratches, Kiara let out a cough of relief.
"You really had me questioning my immortality for a moment there. Ahem!"
Calli's looked silently as Kiara's perfectly intact head spoke. This was the first time her slash hadn't killed at once.
It doesn't make any sense at all... she should be dead right now.
The Reaper quickly repositioned herself for another strike.
Let me try again.
Quick as lightning, the metal blade fell on the victim. But Kiara responded as quickly by summoning a shield on her left arm and deflecting the blade.
This didn't stop Calli as she expertly maneuvered her scythe to exploit an opening in Kiara's defense- her legs. To tackle this attack, the Phoenix conjured a fiery sword in her right hand and struck the blow away. What followed after this was a barrage of attacks from Calli as she tried to cut off Kiara. Despite being weak from before, her movements were fluid and masterfully directed towards every gap in her opponent's defense. And Kiara was struggling to keep up even though she could defeat Calli in hand to hand combat. Maybe it was the bizzare nature of the weapon she was facing, or the insane skill of the Reaper which seemed mortally impossible; or, more importantly, she didn't feel like this fight was something that should be happening right now.
"Could we-" Before she could suggest a time out, Calli had flung the scythe straight at her face.
'This damned thing has such a long reach!' Kiara jumped back in order to gain some space.
"Why are you doing this all of a sudden-"
Her question was only answered by the swings which Calli threw at her endlessly. The air around them had started to pick up the movement and a small whirlwind was forming blowing up dust everywhere.
Seeing that she couldn't escape the Reaper's reach in land, Kiara extended her wings and launched into the sky.
"Can you stop this already? Why are you doing this?" She shouted from above.
Calli replied nothing and coldly stared at the Phoenix. There was something about her gaze. Some force that was projecting from her eyes. And Kiara felt a chill run down her spine. What was this that she was witnessing? It was like the person she was talking to before had morphed into something else. Something primal, and horrifying.
"Are you alright?" She said, softly, like she was talking to herself. It was clearly meant for Calli, but she couldn't say it loudly.
The cold blooded stare continued for sometime as Kiara looked into those red eyes. She saw madness. A spiral of great- something- which the Phoenix couldn't recognize. And just as she was looking, the eyes vanished and she instead saw the grass below. Calli had teleported right next to her, and flying midair she swung the scythe with such great momentum that it sent Kiara crashing to the ground.
She couldn't have died, I didn't feel my scythe go through. It's like striking iron. Why is the neck so damn hard?
Calli landed on her feet. Her body was tearing from all sides. It felt like her limbs were just pieces of meat hanging onto her. Moving the scythe around for so much had burst the scabs on her hands and her wrists were swollen. Earlier she had lied about her twisted ankle. Now it had become true. Standing was incredibly painful for her, she could pass out any moment.
