🥀YOONGI🥀
This time, the reaping had been different.
The first time it had been like I was in the passenger seat, watching as someone else drove the car I was in, but still being able to decide if the vehicle would turn left or right.
But now it was like I had been riding in the backseat; I could see where the car was going, but didn't have that much control over the directions it would take. However, I still experienced all the curves and bumps on the road.
I was aware of what happened inside Lee Do-Hyeok's head. My anger fueled those actions. My memories were the only thing in my mind as my reaper self hunted the man down, and all I wanted was to make him pay for what he had done.
I was able to see everything, both the nightmarish scenario Do-Hyeok had made for himself, and the man strapped to the chair in real life.
And as my reaper self laughed, hearing the man desperately screaming from inside his coffin, I felt my body begin to spasm with the same laugh.
My mind was in two places at the same time. Split.
The impossibility of the situation only added to the volume of the maniacal laugh exploding from my chest. I laughed uncontrollably until there was almost no air in my lungs.
When the invisible gravedigger was done with his job, the reaper smiled, as if he found my laughing extremely amusing before he said, "We're done here."
And just like that, my mind became one once again. It happened as quickly as a stretched rubber band going back to its original form. The snap was so sudden that it made me physically lose balance and fall on the floor on my back.
The ceiling above me was spinning. I was dizzy the way I would be when mom spun me around when I was a kid.
Back then, dizziness made me happy. Now it made my stomach lurch as if I was suffering from motion sickness.
I managed to get up on my elbows, and as my head stopped spinning, I stared into Lee Do-Hyeok's eyes, still strapped to a chair, as the light left them.
Lee Do-Hyeok's emptying gaze stared back at me, there was a trail of saliva on his chin, and I could see his jugular pulsing slowly, following his heart's dying beats.
"Pathetic"
The voice scorned.
And as I breathed in shaky breaths, trying to get up to regain my balance, I looked at the man who had tortured me and my family while he died slowly sitting on the chair, completely helpless, I agreed with the voice.
Suddenly, a ringtone filled the room, bringing me back to my senses, back to having a notion of urgency, because suddenly I remembered that I had interrupted the man I'd just killed while he was still on the phone.
I felt a sudden rush of air behind me, and Hobi's voice reached me before I could turn around to look at him.
"You have to get out of here. They are coming!"
The urgency in his voice made me sprint into action. I looked over all the instruments Lee Do-Hyeok had left on the bed. Luckily I hadn't touched any of those.
Quickly thinking about all the objectives I might have laid my hands on in this room, I felt my pants pocket, my palms touching the outline of the snake engraved lighter.
"Hurry up!" Hobi shouted at me as I went behind Lee Do-Hyeok and untied his hands. His skin was already cold when I grabbed for the belt I had used to tie him up.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" I cursed, looking around the room for another exit.
The only way I could escape this place was either through the door or the window, and Hobi was looking at those as if they would burst open at any moment.
"There's a window in the-"
The front door opened with a bang, hitting the wall behind it with so much force that it almost closed again.
Even though Hobi wouldn't be hit by the object if it touched him, he still flinched back, looking startled at the guy standing at the door.
He was huge. His arms were as thick as tree trunks. His hands, closed in fists, could easily cover my entire face. He would be able to snap me in half as easily as anyone could snap a toothpick between their fingers.
"Let me help"
The voice spoke inside my head so suddenly that I covered my ears on instinct when I felt it so close.
The man at the door looked at his dead companion and then his eyes stopped on me. His eyebrows shot up for a second, affected by the confusion when he tried to focus on my face.
Motels like these didn't have luxurious-sized rooms, so once he was at the door, all he had to do was take one step, maybe two to be able to reach me.
I had never been a fighter. I could manage to throw a punch or two. But not against this guy.
Even not really understanding what it would mean to let the voice in my head help me, I didn't really have a choice.
If I hesitated for a moment, the sound of more people running up the metal stairs made me change my mind.
So I relinquished control.
I was still aware of all the movements my body made, but had no control over it.
I wondered if this was what being a puppet felt like.
I felt it when my body ran towards the man, my rleft hand already recoiling.
The man widened his eyes when he saw me coming in his direction, but had no time to react as my left foot stepped over his left knee, using it as leverage, so I would come closer to his face. My closed fists made contact with his jaw in an uppercut punch.
His teeth clashed against each other with the impact. He groaned painfully, while my body jumped back to the floor, watching as he took a step back, his body becoming rigid as his brain shut down because of the force of impact.
He fell back like a tree being cut down.
"What the fuck?" Hobi cursed, and my body turned to look at him.
My mentor's usually smiley eyes grew wider when he stared at me.
He looked scared for a moment, and I felt my body hold in a humorous laugh when I came to that conclusion in my head.
Then, as if nothing happened, my body turned towards the bathroom. The door was closed and locked as soon as I was inside. Then I spotted the window. Conveniently, it was just big enough for someone of my size to go through.
It took some maneuvering to get out since I had to squeeze my body through it.
I should have felt my stomach scratching against the windowsill, it should have hurt when I fell on my shoulder on the floor.
But there was nothing.
