BEAUXBATONS & DURMSTRANG
☆ ☆ ☆

AFTER SEARCHING THE castle for 30 minutes, Cassie found Draco sitting out by the black lake. Everyone was at dinner by now, but Cassie didn't care.

Wordlessly, she sat down beside Draco. He threw another rock into the lake. Cassie pulled her legs up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her knees.

"You know, I've gotten those letters too." She said softly after they sat in silence for a few moments.

In typical Malfoy fashion, Draco's face held no emotion. He didn't even seem phased that Cassie had broken into his dorm room and read his letter.

"I'm not even doing bad in the class, Granger's just quicker to raise her hand." Cassie knew Draco would never admit that Hermoine worked harder than he did when it came to studies.

"Draco..." Cassie said gently. She knew that wasn't all of it. Draco had devoted his time to making Harry Potter's life a living hell, and it was getting in the way of his classes. She'd been there with the Weasley twins a time or two herself.

"Fine, Cas." Draco sighed. "I'm not paying attention as much as I should. I can't help it, I truly hate the three of them."

Cassie snorted a laugh. Draco looked up at her.

"What?" He asked.

"We're just too much alike," Cassie said. "I devoted all of my time last year to compete with the Weasley twins, and my grades did slip a little bit. I got the same letter."

Draco nodded. "Yeah, I remember that. They really got under your skin."

"They still do," Cassie grumbled. "Those bloody idiots got me a detention today."

"They what?!" Draco exclaimed, "How?"

She waved him off. "Yeah, they also broke my nose, but we can talk about it later. More importantly, are you okay?"

Draco looked back out at the lake.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I just don't want him to show up here."

Cassie rested a hand on his shoulder. "He won't. As long as you let this thing with Potter go."

Draco opened his mouth to argue but stopped himself.

"I'll try."

"Thank you," Cassie said gently. "And, if he does show up, I'll be right by your side defending you. Throwing Potter, Weasley, and Granger right under the bus for you."

Draco smiled. Cassie knew she was one of the only people who ever got to see him smile. They understood each other in a way that no one else would ever be able to, and Cassie loved that about her little brother.

"C'mon," She said as she stood up from the ground, "Maybe we can still make it to dinner."

Draco pulled himself up off of the ground. "I'm not hungry." He mumbled.

"Of course, you're not." Cassie sighed, throwing an arm around his shoulder as they walked back to the castle. Draco was quick to shrug her off, but couldn't hide his tiny smile.

Cassie's detention with the Weasley's was put off for the next day, as the students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons were arriving that evening.

The entire school was gathered in front of the castle, as they awaited the arrival of the two schools. Cassie stood with her arms folded over her chest with an unamused expression. From beside her, Maria and Eliza shivered violently.

The girl noticed the Weasley twins up ahead, the two of them were shoving each other; trying to make the other fall over. McGonagall quickly scolded them, and they straightened up as they both laughed.

Cassie rolled her eyes.

"I cannot believe you have detention with them." Beckett said, as he finally appeared by her side.

"Where have you been?" Cassie asked, completely ignoring his previous statement.

Beckett only grinned at her, and Cassie noticed his flushed expression.

"Got a little caught up with a Ravenclaw girl." He whispered.

Maria and Eliza had yet to notice.

Cassie glanced from them, and then back to Beckett. "Please don't say anything about it to Maria." She whispered back.

Beckett raised his eyebrows in confusion.

"Why?"

Cassie sighed. "You are the most oblivious boy I have ever met."

"What do you mean by tha-"

But he was cut off by shouts from the crowd.

"There!"

"It's a dragon!"

"Really, a dragon? Who is that fucking stupid?" Cassie said aloud, making Beckett snort a laugh.

The entire school watched as a gigantic light blue carriage, pulled by flying horses landed on the grounds.

"Well, that's one way to make an entrance I suppose. I'll have to suggest to father that we start flying places in Malfoy Manner, he'll love that." Cassie said sarcastically. She was not sharing in the excitement of the other students.

Beckett continued to laugh at Cassie's comments. He slung an arm around her shoulder, as he towered over her at 6'1. Cassie didn't shrug him off, she wouldn't admit it but she was cold.

"I love you Cas, I hope you know." He said through chuckles.

"I think you're alright, Beck."

Then, just as the two focused their attention back on the carriage, a very large woman stepped out of it.

"Blimey, what do you think her diet is like?" Beckett asked.

"My guess is a whole turkey every night," Cassie responded.

Dumbledore began to clap, and so the other students began to clap as well. Most students were very enthusiastic and Cassie could not understand why. All they did was land a carriage, and they did it quite poorly anyways.

As Dumbeldore began to speak to the large woman, quite a few students poured out of the carriage.

"Oh wow," Cassie mumbled. They all seemed so elegant and poised, and Cassie began to feel unoriginal. The Beauxbatons students glanced over the Hogwarts students as though they were better than them.

"That's my thing!" Cassie whispered yelled to Beckett.

"Acting like you're better than everyone else?" He asked.

"Yes!"

Beckett sniggered and Cassie elbowed him in the side aggressively, but he didn't remove his arm from her shoulders. Cassie didn't want him to, seeing as having one of the best-looking boys in the school on her arm made her seem even more powerful. She already had a gorgeous boyfriend (even though he's gay and it's a fake relationship) but having guys fall at her feet was such a power move.

"The lake! Look at the lake!" Lee Jordan yelled.

Cassie thought about making a comment on how Lee Jordan never seemed to shut up, but decided against it. She thought she'd made enough bitchy comments for the night.

A giant ship rose out of the waters of the black lake, shining in the moonlight. Cassie decided she liked Dumstrang's arrival much better, it was ominous and she was always a fan of that.

The students disembarked from the ship. They were large, much larger than the Beauxbatons students. They wore fur coats, and all held themselves with silent dignity.

That was when Beckett began to shake her in excitement.

"Cassie, that's Viktor Krum!"
