"I... I thought we might have been siblings, but twins? Why didn't you tell me? Why," I asked in tears looking at the man who I called my Papa. Looking at the man whom I had trusted.
"Why don't we all go to breakfast so we can explain. Even Bruno showed up to breakfast today, despite him mourning just as much as you had been." Felix said then starts walking toward the dining area. I nod and get up to follow him downstairs.
I walk slowly to breakfast and when I do enter the room I see Felix, Pepa, Abuela, Julieta, Augstin and Bruno whispering among themselves. I let my gaze shift over each of them and when I get to Bruno he turns and looks back at me with a face of concern, worry and sadness. I just look back at him, wondering what expression I have on my face.
Finally, Abuela's voice cuts through the awkwardness that had been covering the room. "Hello Camilo, it's seems we all need to talk about this. Although, to be honest we should have let you know a long time ago."
I walk over to my spot with my head down so I don't have to look at the questioning stares of my cousin's. As I sit down Abuela clears her throat. "So I heard that you've discovered that you and Mirabel are twins." As Abuela says this my cousins look over in shock. "You found this out from an image, yes?"
"Yes, Abuela." I answer her and look down at the food in front of me. As I look down I get hit with the aroma of scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. I look back up to Abuela.
"Well then, you should also be aware you and Mirabel's Papa is Bruno." Abuela said without hesitating. I had been so focused on Abuela I hadn't heard the murmuring of my cousins but after hearing what Abuela said the following silence was way to apparent.
Then sense of sadness and shame runs over me. The strangest part is that it isn't my own. That's when I realize whose feelings I'm sensing. I stand up with my hands bracing the table and unconsciously mutter to myself, "Mirabel is alive."
