Gunther ran through the falling stone of Hogwarts' ruins. Death eaters ran around fighting anyone who was brave enough to stay and fight. He thought he saw his brother round a corner and so Gunther followed him.
Sure enough, Rolf was bolting through corridors. Gunther felt his heart leaping double time as he realized Rolf was breaking McGonagall's rules. He ran after his baby brother but got held up by some death eaters.
They fought meticulously for about fifteen minutes. Gunther fired a spell and a death eater would counter it. It was back and forth like this until he heard someone yell-
"Avada Kedavra!"
Gunther felt the spell it his back and then nothing.
He looked down as his body fell to the floor. Gunther tried to get back to his body, but everything went blank.
Gunther woke up in his back garden. At least, it looked like his back garden - landscape-wise. Everything else was strange, clean, and quiet. At the entrance to the garden stood a beautiful woman with blonde hair and green eyes. Gunther approached her because he thought he'd seen her before. But nothing rang a bell.
"Who are you?" he asked.
She smiled sadly, "My sister was very silent after everything, wasn't she?"
Gunther was surprised when her voice came out American. That's when he realized why she looked familiar.
"You're Queenie, aren't you?"
She nodded. Gunther's hands went to his forehead as he collapsed to the ground.
"I really am dead, aren't I?"
Queenie approached Gunther and wrapped him in a comforting hug.
"I'm afraid so."
Gunther shook greatly, "I can't be! Rolf! He's- he's still so- so young! He needs me!"
Queenie ran a hand through his hair and soothed him, "I know. I know."
Gunther looked up at the entrance and realized where it led to. Queenie stood up and held out her hand.
"Are you ready?" she asked.
Gunther looked up, "If I go with you, will I be able to return to Hogwarts-"
"As a ghost?" Queenie finished. She looked at the entrance, "That is what usually happens. You walk through and you return to the place you left."
Gunther considered this. He was gone, but if he returned as a ghost, he'd be able to watch over his brother and possibly Rolf's hypothetical children. Gunther took Queenie's hand and followed her through the gate. He was blinded by another bright light.
Then, he found himself in the Great Hall. He wasn't quite convinced he was a ghost until some traumatized kid walked straight through him. Gunther floated through the Great Hall, looking through the crowds of heartbroken families mourning their deceased.
Gunther saw the back of his mother's head and started approaching his family. He reached them just as Rolf was standing up, his eyes red and puffy. The look of heartbreak plastered on his face was enough for Gunther to feel his ghostly form feel pulled to one place.
Rolf looked up and halted in his place. He was staring directly at Gunther, but Gunther couldn't tell if he was truly looking at him. Not until he saw Rolf say-
"I'm sorry." he mouthed, "It's my fault."
